Default Auto Air Degreaser?

I have watched a video on shooting Auto Air. What do you recommend to gently clean the painted surface before clearing?

Thanks,

Wade

I'd rather not get it dirty! LOL.

Just ribbing ya... I usually use (VERY GENTLY!!!!!) a watered down windex.....VERY GENTLY! If I can get away with just using a tack rag, without having to resort to a degreaser, well, why take the chance.

Just like Big D, I try to just make sure the surface is clean bfore then tjust tack it down with a nonaggressive tack rag. Anything you wipe it down with that is waterbased, you run the risk of wiping out some of the work.
But the solution that BD talks about, as long as it's a weak solution, would work if you really needed to.
Hope this helps....

Thanks for the info!

I guess I am worried most about light fingerprints affecting the clear. This is the first project I am getting cleared. I am not sure how sensitive clear is to things such as light oils from skin.

when i need to use a degreaser, i use a product from ppg.....mx190. i use it on a soft rag. i let it dry on the rag a bit before using, so it is not wet. but like the others, i try not to have to need it...lol

I used to use base coat thinners, really wet rags, rub hard.

No more finger prints or grease marks!

Well actually, nothing at all, everything has gone!

I don't like this idea of mine, I would suggest no one tries this one

I have found that if you are not in a hurry to clear and let your paint work sit for a couple days, after about the third day you dont have to worry as much about "rubbing" your art off.

A good way to avoid body oils on the work is to use those exam gloves. A two prong benefit.
1. No body oils on the work

2. No paint on your hands.

I've found the best price on em at the drug store.

Then all you have to worry about is dust and stuff like that, or spilling your drink on it.

I like to use DX330....But I also use a product called GON.Its a
wax and grease remover from a company in Cleveland called X-I-M products. Gon is slightly agressive,so to knock it down abit, I have added 2 ounces of Mineral Spirits to a full gallon. I have had great results with no residue left behind.
