Re: airbrushs
Welcome to the board. You should check out the Product Review to see what folks think about the different airbrushes they have used. It all basically comes down to what type of airbrushing do you plan to do (ie. t-shirts, canvas, cars, etc...) and what you are comfortable using. If you are going to try to be an all around artist then you might consider one of each just to cover your bases, but in the end it's all about personal preferences.
Can't wait to see some of your work and remember - practice, practice, practice.

Re: airbrushs
Hokay, so I asked one question in an email, and the reply led me to more questions. I'm going to paint 1:144 models. DJ kindly recommended an Iwata HP. I'm going to be using acrylic model paints. Does that affect the recommendation? What compressor would be appropriate for the media and applications I have in mind? Are there any other variables I should be considering? What should I have for a midnight snack?

Re: airbrushs
Oprah says that eating after 8pm is bad for you. I say that Oprah needs to mind her own business!!!!
As far as midnight snacks I always liked a Philly Cheese Steak, hey if your going to snack do it right!LOL
As far as what brush to choose your in the right place to learn. Do your research, go to the sites that do the kind of painting you want to do and ask what they use.

Re: airbrushs
I usually only snack at midnight when I’m three sheets to the wind, so I choose something greasy. (settles the stomach) My favorite is sausage burgers. Never eat your paint.

Re: airbrushs
But some of 'em look like big M&Ms.
Okay, I looked at Iwata, but I didn't want to spend that much. I found a Paasche double action kit with all the bells and whistles, and a Silentaire with the same. It'll probably be weekend after next before I can make any trial runs. If I can be effective with it, I'll probably wind up buying a better airbrush within a year. That's stupid I guess, but it's fairly typical of the way I buy things.
Question: who makes an acrylic primer I can use that would be effective for both metal and plastic?
Hmmmmm, there's apple pie in the pantry. I wouldn't want ants to find it. Later.

Re: airbrushs
dieselpop1,
You are going to love the Silentaire. I just received mine yesterday and used it last night. I had been using a Porter Cable 6 gallon oiless pancake compressor and it made so much noise the wife could not sleep through my late night painting in the next room! I HAD to keep the peace...

Re: airbrushs
"CCair" I'm using a Porter Cable 6 gallon oiless pancake compressor and like it but in my small studio it is loud and make me jump messing up a line now and then. So I cut it off and airbrush till the pressure need to come back up then turn it back on. What model of Silentaire do you have? How much do they cost? I don't know anything about them. Do you have a link?

Re: airbrushs
Valketeer,
Mine is a SilAire 50-24. It was ~ $700. Just about the same size as the Porter Cable, but so quiet if it comes on when you have the airbrush on you can't hear the compressor. I know what you mean about jumping when the Porter Cable kicks on!! Here is a link that shows all the whole line:
