Question air not getting where it needs to - any ideas?

Hello folks - I'm a newb to the forum and really so far as airbrushing goes, I would still call myself a newb there too. I mainly use it as a moother method of painging sculpy pendants and custumising my bow (as in arrows, not ribbons lol)

Well two years ago I was given a Badger Crecendo 175 for Christmas. Overkill for one of my skill most likely, but hey - I'm not complaining lol

From the begining I have noticed that I get air leakage around the connection between the unit and the hose - looking at this the leak is around the Valve casing and somewhat around the trigger.

Well I went down to my work bench tonight after work to finish up some pendants when disaster struck.

ALL of the air is now exiting through the trigger. Nothing is making it to the head at all, so no air, no paint, no fun!

I tried disasembling the entire unit to see if something was gummed up (didnt start thinning my paints untill fairly recently) but all was well. So I cleaned it up anyways, used the diagram I linked above as a guide and put it back together again. . . but the problem persists.

any ideas?

Sounds like you may have a bad O ring, they tend to wear out over time and can even get dry rot cracks that you cannot see. That's where I would start.

well the problem in figuring out if it's the O ring is that I cant figure out how to open up that part of the airbrush.

thats the assemby, but I cant find the separation points to save my life lol - if I can figure out the part then I can just order it from the hobby shop next door to where I work tomorow. no problems. but if I cant get at it then a new O ring wont do me much good lol

Hey i have a badger cresendo as well and have experirnced air leakage in the same area as you describe . Going by you picture you posted the air could be escaping around the the actual trigger valve itself ( sharp point at top where valve assembly screws into the bottom of the gun) try to lubricate that valve and depress it until it travels smoothly. reassemble and see if problem is corrected. (see attached photo) Also most online airbrush stores sell the whole valve piece as an assembly for around twelve bucks. i hope this helps and good luck...

Well I was just at the hobby shop next door to work and they tried to get that assembly open to no avail. It was so tight that they managed to strip the brass bottom cap with the alyn wrench.

So I ordered a new assembly for under $15 and added a medium point needle since I bent the tip on mine a week ago anyways lol

thanks for the advice!

Try checking p/n 41-012* on your drawing it is the needle packing and serves to stop air from exiting thru the back as well as guiding the needle.
if that dosn't work remove the front cap(head p/n 41-023) and see if air comes out the front with out it.
There could be a blockage (dried paint ) in the cap area.
This has happened to me on my old relic 150xf and it'll either blow back at the trigger or back flush into the cup.
That needle packing is small becareful not to loose it!
