Default Pinstriping Materials needed

Are some basic materials needed to get started pinstriping.
Most of this can be purchased at a hardware store.

1 Get some One Shot Pinstriping paints. I like to
start with Light Blue or Kansa City Teal. Handles nice

2 Get a Mack Striping brush. Any size is ok. Your own preferance.
I like to use a size 0 or a 1. Trim if needed. See issues 19 thru 21 of
AirBrush Technique for info on trimming.

3 At a hardware store get a quart or gallon of oderless mineral spirits.
At about 10 dollars a gallon. Its good stuff to start cleaning and using for
alittle bit of thinning paint

4 Get some mineral oil or neatsfoot oil to preserve the brush when not in use

5 Get some slick paper or plastic lids for paint pallets

6 Some rags

7 Turepentine only to add a drop or so to thin paint. (Use turpintine only
for practice)

8 Linseed oil to retard drying (use for practice only)

When ready to really use your paints use only One Shot brand slow, medium, or fast thinners only. the formula has changed the last few years.

For just practice use items on 7 and 8.

9 finally anything you want to practice on

10 post some work!!!!

Also, there is some new mineral spirits out that is fire prof. And its a foam white looking stuff. It does not work. Don't waste you money on it. It will wreck your brushes.

Thanks,

I haz confuzed!

So I got all of my Pinstripe goodies. I'm doing my ghetto practice and I am ready to do a simple design on a scooter-thingy that I just base coated.

So i am using One Shot on top of a uro clear coat. What do I need to do to make sure it doesn't bleed/turn into crap when I clearcoat over it? I remember reading or hearing that I need to add a hardner to it so it will stay sexy.

Correct? If so how much?

Thanks!
Oz

Oz,
You need to add a couple of drops of the hardener from the base coat
paint. Let the one shot really dry. Then lightly mist first coat of clear. Let tack up good, then do a second or third.

Alot of people do it that way. I know of a few that do it on this board.
I myself have never had good luck spraying euros over any kind of one shot.
For me its a hit and a miss.

My friend Paul would have me add a few drops of hardner to my mixed paint.
I striped over color sanded bases. Sometimes it worked great. Sometimes
it lifted the stripes. Then it was a massive headache.
I have always used OneShot as the last step in painting. Meaning I never cleared it.
You can also use HOK euro pinstriping paints. They work great with clear.
Not trying to say who is right or wrong. With me euros over one shot never worked. I am too Old School....LOLOL

I like to buy from Coast Airbrush, they have all the pinstriping stuff you need.
And also Dick Blick. They have alot too. They both have web addresses and
800 order numbers too.
