Thought ya might enjoy theses pics of an old southern good time music pickin house.
Aquilla Alabama
Its an old church that was brought in and made in to a opry house.
The shed pictured is a syrup cooking shed...Brushy that would be kewl on a saw! I think....Ya think?

I have picked there many times, but this time was very special.
I got to SMOKE my banjo along with the many times Alabama State Banjo Champion Danny Joe Lindsey....I play only for fun, but I gave him HECK on mine ahahahhhahhahh I was in HAWG HEAVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Neder........I dunno I have my own style, and by ear to boot...so one day if I can get Bill to film it Ill be glad to post...Ive only been at the banjo about 2 years, and they say it takes a good 5 yrs to be any good at one unless you are born with it in ya.........

Geez Peanut, I'd love to hear you play. I don't know how anyone can say how long it takes to be good, that's just silly. Some people sounds like masters the minute they pick up an instrument. I also taught myself to play but it was the guitar and it was a long time ago. My fingers no longer have calluses and my guitar is long gone. My point, I guess, is that it's just like anything else. Pratice makes perfect. Playing with someone that is renoun is always a wonderful thing, glad for you that you were able to have that experience.

I play all buegrass inst. except the fiddle and piddle on that...I was finger pickin guitar prior to pickin the banjo so that part just fell in place....
I can pick the cush out of the banjo, but I have my own style....so did earl skruggs [the best at one] Good thing is I can play to every kinda music with my style .........so lotsa time I get picked to play with others where book learned players sit on the bench

I live in Stomewall Ms....this place was in Aquilla Alamaba..had to drive hr 1/2 south to it....but from my house its approx. 235 mi. [4 1/2 hrs]to florence ala
and yep on the BTW...I had some pre-med at Auburn .........my dad is from Fayette Ala...he a huge bama fan..................

I have been involved in music since is was six. Now 36 years of experience
later ( most of it professional ) I finally think I have learnt fully. So now I
teach. It's very rewarding.
The place in the pics does look nice. We don't often do that kind of thing in England.

There was a group came from Scotland last year, and yep they played some good bluegrass..........ahahahaha They invited me over to play some [all expenses paid] I wanted to go but was way too busy at the time...beside my hubby says If he goes and has to wear a kilt he wanted one all the way to the ground..........ahahahh My mom was from Scotland so maybe I can make it there someday...see some few kin I have left there.......I actually started out on drums.....

when the 2 play we get on conference call with the whole family half are wareagle half are bama..........its a mess during the last few minutes ...lotsa going on

My dad and the Dean of Auburn back in the 70 went to school together as kids...I dunno his name Ill have to ask em...

Love it .......Elliots gonna be tough as he wants to be....very talented for a short time...............
I havent picked up sticks since 1988.... except 1 time at my brothers house about 3 years ago he had his elec. set up and I popped out on Life is a HWy................thats another inst. strickly by ear for me....
In 88 I sold my 16 piece studio set of Yamahas with all Z cymbals and pinstipe heads...........at times I think about another set............
