Need plumbing advice
Doing some more updates in the house. Powder room toilet had a messed up flange (see photo). I cut the pipe a few inches down stream from the 90 and will replace with 4" pvc. question is.. what kind of flange.. one that goes inside the pipe.. or outside. It had a 1 inch offset but the toilet is a 10" rough in and looks like I have room to move it closer to the wall if I have to. If I bring the new 4" pipe up against the joist, and whack out the top edge of the joist if I have to.. you think it will be ok? Was going to install a board under the floor and cut a new 4 1/2 hole for the pip and then fill the existing hole with some 1/2 stock and cut the 4 1/2 hole so the flang will have something to screw into... sorry to babble on so.. I guess I just need to go buy the parts and mess with it..
Oh, I have read conflicting things about the level of the flange.. flush with the floor.. 1/4 above and 1/2" above.. which is best..
And yes I have a plubmer that I can call and pay when I screw it up

Sorry aix, any advice from me and you will screw it up for sure and have to call and pay the plumber The only part about plumbing that I know how to do is sauder water pipes together properly.

Believe it or not I've always found the guys at Home Depot pretty helpful with these type projects. Good luck with it Doug I'm sure you'll get it sorted out

you use a dab too much pipe dope but the only people that will see it is your plumber, it is better to use more than is needed instead of using less because the exceed are force out of the joint, glad that you got it figure out

Re: Need plumbing advice
actually the plumber told me that they are required over do the purple primer so the code inspector can see it. Apparently there are guys out there that don't want to bother with primer before the glue.. and yes.. I didn't do a very neat job ;-) Just hope it don't leak or clog..

I forgot about the code inspector, they got the finally say-so, I think that it is safe to bet that it will not leak unless the pipe gets clog-up

Re: Need plumbing advice
It looks like you have done a great job, I am sure you will be fine, just as long as everything is flowing down hill from the toilet, because you know the old saying about it always flowing down hill....LOL... The only thing I would have a concern with, would be the flex joint, because the hard pipe on the downhill side leaves a lip on the inside and these small lips are places where toilet paper can get caught up and start collecting more toilet paper and result in a clog, it is close to the toilet so you should be ok because you will have more water pushing right in that area, the only suggestion I would make is if you haven't put everything together, would be to file the bottom inside of the hard pipe on the down hill side or the pipe on the right hand side of the flex join when you are looking at it. This would lower the chances of paper catching that lip because it would be smaller, but if you should be ok anyway without doing that, just remember this if it does plug up, you will know where to look. I hope you don't need this info, but if you do I hope it is helpful.. Plumbing is mostly common sense, but it can get aggrevating, don't forget your wax ring when you set your toilet.....hehehe....

Re: Need plumbing advice
Thanks Bill! I had thought about that! But when I think about the rough crooked cut the plumber made at my cousins.. I figure I am good. Nice thing is, I can take out 4 screws and loosen the clamp and lift out this new section without taking anything apart. If it proves to be a problem may have to redo and taper the insides of the pipe as you say. Toilet would be done now but decided to take off the vinyl cove molding and replace with colonial baseboard. I really hate working in phone booth size rooms..
