Red face Caution may cause brain damage.....

Okay so... I have been on the forum for a few weeks and still trying to figure out what airbrush to buy... since I am the one using it I have to do the research.. but my Birthday is coming up so my husband will buy it... Well, I think that I have decided on the Badger 360 or anthem... (any ideas on either let me know)....

Well I was talking to my husband about the different airbrushes right before bed on Thursday.. and told him all the things I have learned..etc... He was supposed to look at the prices and decided which one he thought would work out for our budget...

Well, today..Saturday.. he comes in to the computer room and tells me he couldn't find anything out about the WOMBAT 720... and that he came a cross a wierd set of sites for a WOMBAT Anthem...

What surface and paints do you plan to work with, I think that will dictate more than anything else what brush to be looking at.

I would guess, and I speak from experience here, you will end up with more than one. I have been at this since October of 2004 and have a VL and an Anthem, next I need a gravity feed of some sort for fine detail. That said, maybe the 360 would be a good choice for you. I don't care for my VL do to it's thickness in my short stuby fingers but with the #1 needle it can do faily fine detail, and there are a few thing I don't like about the anthem. Would I sell/trade either, NOPE they do what they are good at and do it well. One tool does not do all, and face it, any kind of painter, be it oil, water, acrylic or house, has more then one brush to do his/her job. Get the best quality, most versatile brush you can afford, and realize you will probably want/need something more,in addition, as time goes by.
Good luck, and have fun.

CP.... I was at first just looking to do RC bodies.. but now with all the options.. I would really like to go back to my older B&W pics and "fix" those.. (high detail)...I also do caligraphy.. (still learning) and would like to be able to do that with the AB as well.

Aix... I realize that I will probably have more than one... eventually... Plus my Older brother (by age only) is willing to learn the skill with me.. so we will each have one.. he has gotten the VL.. from a friend who got it as a gift(its brand new).... and I tried holding it.. and it just seemed awkward for my short-stubby fingers.. so.. I went to an Art Supply store and they had many..many.. there to see and hold.. and the badgers seemed the most comfortable.. and comprably priced.... (not at the store but online)..

Well, Guys.. I hope this clarifies somethings... I also realize that for someone who has never actually wielded an airbrush I seem like I have made up my mind about alot of stuff... but I am just trying to let everything that I have read sink in..and make rational decsions. There is alot of information on this forum.. and I don't think that I have gone back more than two months worth of posts...

Who knew that you could get too much information before you went out to buy an airbrush..

Thanks
Goofie..

A gravity feed airbrush is always going to give you nicer detail on hard surfaces like R/c bodies, photo retouching, etc. if thats what you wish to work on hard surfaces than its a gravity feed you might want to look at
( the exception is of course is for those that will be using a stencil on all the hard surfaces they paint in that case you can use any airbrush pretty much, anthem 155)
Than on the other hand you see what can be created with a single action airbrush (Harrydidit) and all the thories go out the window

If it works for what you are doing, no need to upgrade, the longer you wait.. the more you get for you money!

If I was targeting rc bodies and was on a budget my choice would be a badger 100 G with a fine tip. It I could bump the budget to get something better I would go with the Iwata. Now those choices are just mine but everything you told me screams gravity feed. I use my VL more like a spray can for doing large coverage coats, flame work stuff like that. If I want to get detail I always grab for the badger 100.

I did not want to invest a bunch of money but after 6 mos I still love this stuff so soon I may make the leap and buy a Iwata.

Goofie... one thing that I'm fussy with is how the airbrush feels in my hand. I started with a Paasche VL and no matter how much I've used it, I'm still not happy with it. It's a lot thicker than a lot of the other airbrushes and just does not feel right in my hand (which are very small). I then got an Iwata HP-C Plus gravity feed and fell in love. Knowing I would need a suction feed at some point, I broke down again and bought an Iwata BC-S and love it as well. I'm no expert and many people use the VL and love it, but for me I'm sold on Iwata. There are people on this board that love Badgers too. I haven't tried one and wouldn't know if I'd like it unless I just bought one and tried it. I would say to just read as much as you can about the different brushes and pick one that sounds like it might work for you. You really won't know until you actually try it. One thing you should keep in mind, if you get one you really don't like, you could always place it up for auction in the auction section at http://www.airbrushauctions.com/airbrushauction/

You might even find a used one there so you don't invest much money. In any event, I wish you luck in your endeavors. Welcome aboard by the way! It's great to have you here.
