Default Being Insulted 101

How this for a Major slap in the face!

The realistic fire computer I built the other day was sitting in reception of the workshop on friday just waiting for a moment when I could put it in the car.

In walks this guy looking at buying a new system for Xmas, after spending some time in the display room he spy's the firey beast. Now I painted and built this for my parents for Xmas so no way in hell was it for sale unless this guy was offering some serious folding, and I mean SERIOUS folding.
So in a matter of testing the water, the sales guy I had in the showroom at the time takes this guy over to the computer for a closer look, he explained that it took many hours to paint, was a one of a kind, and that he would have to offer a heck of a lot if he really wanted to buy it.
The guy says he's really interested and our young sales tech asks this tool what sort of $$ was he going to offer for this system, now i'm in the tech room, I can see the guys there but cannot hear a thing, I think that was a blessing.
The customer has a think about it, a long hard think, knowing that he need to come up with an outstanding offer if he's to walk out with this nice system with it's original paint job.

Time is ticking..

Ticking...

Then the light above his head lights up, he tracks down the tech, I see them discuss something, then the strangest thing happened! The tech fell back and sat on the floor, laughing so haRD I could hear him through the double glass and over the movie I was listening too..

He explained later that the guy must have been really serious about buying the computer as the offer was outstanding..

you ready for it!

He offered $50.00 AUD for the case alone! $50.00 !!

Needless to say, If I had heard that I would have either kicked him out of the shop or done something more drastic!

In the end he didnt even buy a system, what a total bummer.

dont take it too hard Rowie. Some people just have no clue.
I think you did a great job on that case, and the tech guy did exactly the right thing by falling down laughing at the offer!

hehe, no biggie mate... he was probably a tourist with no clue as to what work is involved with a custom piece. Either that or he was just plain ignorant and just was trying to have a hand me down. Cant really blame one for trying though i bet he doesnt expect a forum talking about his poor offer.
Head up mate... you're better than that.

I know this was posted some time back but I just got to read it as a new magazine subscriber. I know how you feel rowie.

I’m a newbie at airbrushing but I do oil paintings and portraits in oil on canvas. I don’t know if it’s the area I live (Cotton State) but I have had people want to buy a large painting anywhere from $3.00 to $40.00. I explain to them that would not even cover the cost of the raw materials never mind my time. I have spent sometimes up to 25 hours on a single painting with rich detail. I think some folks are just clueless but I try to always be polite as at least it show a desire on their part to appreciate art even if they have no idea of the value. Today so many people are used to prints that cost around 5 bucks that they have no idea the work that goes into an original art peace. I don’t even start to hand draw & paint a personal portrait for anyone under $300.00.

I feel your aggravation but rest assured as the public sees your work it will happen again and again. Don’t let it get to you, there’s always one in every bunch.
