Re: Nascar season
Yeah, JJ is off to a great start this season. I was happy Kahne took 3rd, I like Kasey, and hope he has a better season than last year. Poor guy was involved in every accident even if he wasn't the culprit, just rather unlucky.. Season is off to a good start though for sure..

Re: Nascar season
What are your thoughts on Toyota entering the race? Do you think they'll stick to NASCAR rules or will they try to take over and change them for their benefit?
Roush, will they donimate?
What about the Stewart/Kenseth ordeal? At Daytona Stewart and Kenseth go at it, this week, Stewert gets his first DNF in almost a whole year and Kenseth takes 1st. Coincidence? lol.

Re: Nascar season
Has anyone else noticed that the last 3 races Jimmie Johnson has won their team has been caught Cheating? Did you also notice that Hall of Fame racing had a rule violation which nascar says was "not performance enhancing" and was fined $25,000 and lost 25 owner/championship points, but Johnson's team intentionally looked to find away around the rear window rule and they have no points taken away? My question is this: If Jimmie is so great why must he cheat to win? Not that great in my book?
When was the last time Mark Martin's team had to cheat? Mark has more class than lowering himself to the level of cheating.

Re: Nascar season
Scott I don't know how much cheating went on and I am probably not as informed as I could be but Chad was caught and is serving his time. As a Racer myself we are always looking for ways to bend the rules to our advantage to get a step up. I don't believe in out and out cheating but finding a loop hole is every racers edge. Sometimes necessity is the mother of inovation. As far as I know Jimmy's car passed tech for the 500 and also for California or they would have removed the win or penalized him but again I admit I am not as informed as I could be. Having said all that........
I still like Jimmy!
I also look forward to toyota coming in . Look what they did in truck.
I would love to see honda try getting in too. I suspect tha the big 3 would begin to scramble a bit once that happens!

Re: Nascar season
I love how NASCAR puts it "Working the gray areas" it's not cheating any longer. I love how the meaning of some words get bent to fit someone's agenda. NASCAR was founded on working the gray areas I'm not sure thats one of the best things about NASCAR we want to pass on to our kids.
Cody races but to me at the age of 13 (kids racing) I want him to learn to be a skilled driver, winning is great but there are sometimes more important things to be learned. As with any kids sport sometimes I think it would be best to have a lock on the parking lot gate and all parents must stay in the parking lot, let the kids race, there kids.
Chad got off lucky just like Tony did last week they should have sat Tony down for a couple races and Chad for the whole season.

Re: Nascar season
Spiritwind, I was involved in Pro-National truck and tractor pulling (Regional Level) for 10 years, won many state championship titles, was invited to many pulls to perform demos and such. I know about trying to find that last little bit. We would rework the vehicle every week trying to get better, but we never tried to cheat and then find a way to cover it up so as not to get caught.
Here is another thing to think about: (I am playing devil's advocate here) Remember when Dale got killed, who won the next two races? Steve Park(Dei) and Kevin Harvick (RCR) #29 formerly #3. Who won the July Daytona race that year? Dale Jr. (Dei) Well now isn't that a storybook saga. Jimmy Spencer was fined for comments he made about nascar installing a "special plate" on the #8 car. (For those of you who do not know Nascar installs the restrictor plate not the crew. They are issued after tech,)
Remember when the hendrick plane went down and Rick's family members and friends were lost who won the next time at Martinsville? A Hendrick car (I Think it was Gordon but not sure). Looking at it from this way things look kinda fishy. I am not saying things are rigged but it makes for a great heart warming story at the water cooler on monday morning and brings in more fans for the next week.
I am an avid nascar fan and have been for many years. I do not believe that nascar is rigged. A friend of mine told me this and I had to Laugh when I heard it.

Re: Nascar season
As a Christian I would never advocate cheating and as a race team we don't.
I also hate being beat by cheaters! I was only inferring that I think it's ok to work on every part of the machine for an advantage and sometimes find one. Cheating is always out. Chad is getting off lightly but that was nascars decision. We still don't know how much Jimmy may have known but he might have. I would prefer a world where cheaters and those with the money didn't always have the advantage.
They still need us though or they would have nobody to play with. We know when we've done well even if we don't win. Specially when we have to compete with the big bill folds and cheaters. That just means we've done alot better with alot less!

Re: Nascar season
I was just talking off the top of my head sprite not directed at you.
Its Codys dream to race karts not mine I support him the best I can in that as I'm sure you do your son. Cheaters never win, it all comes out in the wash as they say They might beat you on the score sheet but they have won nothing.
NASCAR seems to be very selective in handing out punishments these days depending on how big the sponsor is. Both Home Depot and Lowes are two of the biggest. If a driver, crew chief from a different team with less of a sponsor impact where in Tony and Chad pllace I think both punishments (Tony, Chad) would have been far much greater.

Re: Nascar season
Spiritwind, I agree with you 100%. We always tried to get the most out of what we had within the rules. We had people who were illegal, but since they were the ones who did all the maintenance on the drag, worked the events, and help secure the fairs and events nothing was said to them. We always worked hard for everything we got. I too am a christian and feel the same way about cheating.
Good Luck with the races.

Re: Nascar season
As a former Motorcycle racer I can tell you, those who thoroughly know the rules and understand the gaps in those rules have the edge. Those that simply scan the rule book and abide blindly are generally in the rear of the pack. innovaton within the prescribed guidelines should be encouraged. As they say "That's Racing". Ain't it great !!!!

Jeeptough:
Those Kart krashes always scare the heck out of me! Our first season was ended prematurely by a bad one. He's ok now but my heart is in my throat evertime they go out.

Re: Nascar season
If you look hard enough you can find a dark side to everything.
I age a year for every lap he puts down during a race I have to trust he knows what he's doing out there and support him as best I can.

Re: Nascar season
pretty wild race today for NASCAR, 15 second laps , crazy stuff all they needed was for Tony to get in the act, are there any Kurt fans really any where?
bad day for the IRL here in Florida with the death of Mr Dana during practice
at Homestead my thoughts and prayers go out his family
A friend of mine finished 5th today at Homestead in the Indy Pro Series , Bobby Wilson which was pretty cool

Tony wins at Martinsville and Finally Jeff gets a podium. It's been a while since he's been that close to a win! I still like all that team. Jeff Jimmy and Kyle. I 'm not sure why but I have developed an afinity for those racers.

I was sure bummed about Kanhe, he was again running very well, danged tire issues. He ended up 36th and dropped in the points considerably. But the season is still far far from over, and in Texas this weekend I hope he dominates..

Re: Nascar season
It was a good race and nice to see Kasey get the win....I know he needed that. Does the word "Karma" discribe Kurt Bush lately???? last couple of races, everytime he crashes someone else he seems to have his own problems shortly after...tire blows and shreds half his car....oil line breaks....makes ya go "hmmmmmmmmmm".....what goes around comes around they always told me.
My biggest problem with Kurt is that first he has NO respect for anyone else on the track except his baby brother and on a good day maybe his own teamates.....but the main thing that ticks me off about Kurt is that he doesn't have the guts to admit when he's done something wrong.....its always someone elses fault. Personally I think Joe Gibbs should have left him in the truck series and let him work his way thru the Busch series before puttin him in a cup car.....maybe, just maybe he'd of matured a bit more and learned to respect the others on the track and not refer to all the veteran drivers as "a bunch of old hasbeens".....he keeps puntin guys into the wall like hes been doin lately and someone else is gonna go "Spencer" on him and punch him in the nose again.
And what about the girlfriends gettin involved in ranting at the other drivers girlfriend in their pitbox.....geeez....I thought that only took place at the saturday nite dirt races....hehehe....guess not.
