What do U think of the " Chase for the Championship " ??
Do U think it is a good, or bad, idea ??

I think I'm going to wait and see. It is at least going to be interesting. I'm curious to see if Newman, Stewart and Mayfield can still contend or if yesterday's race killed their hopes of a win. I'm an Earnhardt fan, so I'm naturally glad to see him leading.
A bit of Trivia regarding the points chase.
• Under the current point system instituted in 1975, no driver has been outside the NASCAR Top 10 with 10 races remaining, then come back to capture the series championship
• Kurt Busch would have been in contention for the 2002 championship, if the "Chase for the Nextel Cup" format had been in place. Busch was 12th in the standings with 10 races remaining, but would have made the "chase" because he was 365 points behind the leader. He finished third in the standings after winning three of the final five races
• Fifth-to-first is the furthest back a champion has come in the standings during the last 10 races, a feat accomplished by Tony Stewart in 2002
• The second-best position comeback by a champion was by Alan Kulwicki in 1992. Kulwicki was fourth in the standings with 10 races remaining
• The third-best position comeback by a champion was by Darrell Waltrip in 1982. Waltrip was third in the standings with 10 races remaining

Since Harvick is out I have to pull for Jr.
I'm not sure about this chase thing, but I can tell the Richmond
race just about gave me a heart attact.
Ok so the guys not in the top ten don't make it to the 1st place shot,
but the thing that bother me is that some guys not in the top ten by
26 race could make it into the top ten by the end of the year so I don't think
it's to fair. I mean with 9 more races 11th 12th or so could of made it in the top ten I think.

hindee29, Yep, I have to agree with U there on the guys in 11th, 12th. If I was in that position..., I'd be 'kinda PO'd
I guess they had to "draw the line" somewhere?? I've heard that if 15 had been less than 400 points out, we'd have 15 in the chase... maybe.
They just keep " messin' " with it, don't they ?? DrD

Robbie Gordon
needs to sit this weekend out for his stupidity. Mater of fact he needs to go back to open wheel racing. Think he's a real bone head for saying his plans over the radio for all to hear. They could have taken his points for the race and throw some to Stewart and Mayfield BUT that's racin.

KB, WAY TO GO !!! That's my man too. He is smooth, consistent, and CLEAN to a " T ". A " Racer's Racer ", but I've heard this next season is gonna be the last for him. I'd like to see him get a Championship, he's been 2nd more than anybody, I think. It would be hard to find anybody that didn't like him among ALL the driver(s). DrD

I like Martin not just because he's a great driver, but, mainly for his attitude!!
IF someone bumps him...hes not on camera telling the fans the guy that hit him is a freaking jerk....if his motor blows, hes not all over the engine dept....if he runs over debris in the last lap that causes a top 5 finish to go to 28th, hes not all over Nascar for not trowing a caution....the list goes on and on....but THATS why I have been a Martin Fan now for umpteen years!!!!
If that little #20 was smart....he would take some lessons from Martin on how to be a "CHAMPION"....yeah...I got a problem with the 20...if Nascar had penalized him like they should have instead a "slap on the wrist" the last time Martin got edged out for the Championship...I think the 6 would no longer be a "bridesmaid" and the REAL Champion would have been shown to the racing world!!

Couldn't of said it better. Losing those points for the OOS ( out of spec )spring cost Mark for sure.
I happened to be at Myrtle Beach, and got onto the taping of that QVC For Racers Only show with Tony. He seemed to be pretty nice, and mentioned his high regard for Mark, and all that he has taught him. I definitely agree though, that Tony showed his A a lot, and WAS NOT acting in " Champion fashion ". Mark really deserved that one, and the time he won 6 races (normally enough), but Gordon won 10 or 13 some REAL high number ( 10 ? )
BTW- He's a tough little guy. he started his own "fitness training" long time ago, one of the 1st, I think.
He runs good at Dover, too.

WOOOO HOOOO!!!!
Another great finish for the 6 at Dover!!!!!!
Coming in at 2nd to Newmans STRONG Dodge today was good enough for him to gain another two spots in the points!!! Looks like a tie for 4th in the chase with the 48.
GO MARTIN!!!!!!!!

I third that sentiment I would have liked to see Mark win, but Ryan just had THE dominant car, and that was backed with a bunch of good pit stop(s).
Just like KB says, Martin is a class act all-around, no BS out of him. I hope he has no bad luck, and can finally get the Championship he deserves. DrD

He finished 9th and dropped to third in the chase points. 18 behind the leader. Gordon is now leading the points.

Well I'm with ya there about Jeffy. I'm with KB about Martin. The Rousch guys in general are 'gentlemen racers'. I used to follow Jeff Burton cause I met him, a commercial was filmed at my father's service garage. I then was invited to Dover and had pit/garage passes, got to see EVERYTHING. Some of the drivers are respectable and some are just out for money fame and fortune.
I'd love to see Martin standing in front at the closing ceremonies. He deserves it.
