Artist that got you interested
Everyone has a faverite pinstriping artist that either helped them in the begining or just a style you really like.
First I got to say that Neil Averill from Fresno, Ca. was kind enough in 1973
to let me watch and ask quesions for two days. He does the quarter inch
and outline and teardrop style. I also have much respect for Dick DeBennidictis from Fresno too. You know they just make it look sooooooo
easy. Since coming to Arizona in 1999 I have a longer list LOLO
I like Wizard from Ohio, Steve Kafka from Phoenix, Jack Giachino.
There are many more but these folks really make me see the beauty
of it. The thing is no matter where any of us live there is always someone living near us we never heard of that does super work that is very high
quality.

Von Dutch, Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, El Vago, Tramp Warner, Bobbo Dunn, Pete Finlan, Wizzard, John Hannicane, Dick Bird, Herb Martinez, Makoto, Steve Kafka, Craig Fraser, Gary Jensen, Psychoarts, wow this could turn out to be a long post, apologies to those I left out. There are just too many to list. Someday maybe the same question will be asked and my name will be on the list, many miles down the road. Stripe On, AL

Re: Artist that got you interested
Money got me interested, in all honesty, not any artwork/artist I had seen. I was given an opportunity to learn to paint shirts, & I took it. I didn't even know what an airbrush was until just a few months before I tried it. It wasn't until I was airbrushing for a couple years & started getting requests to do bikes that I "discovered" Vince Goodeve. Wow. He's still one of my all time favs...
Don't really have any pinstriping favs, there are so many who are excellent at what they do.

help pinstriping please
Hi
I would like to buy Pinstriping Paints, so my question is :
-here, I have the choice between HOK and SIGN PAINTERS 1 SHOT.
Is there any probleme to clear with 2 parts clear over a pinstrip job done with SIGN PAINTERS 1 SHOT ( cleaner product is white-spirit, so i'm afraid of incompatibility with polyuretna clear?
HOK is 3X price from SIGN PAINTERS Stuff !!!
I want to buy also a XCALIBER brush, do i need only one size or is it better to get two ?
Thanks

Pat
Clearing over 1 Shot is very dicy, even when the hardener is used, as it has a tendency to wrinkle. The good news is 1 shot doesn't need to be cleared, it is very durable. If you must bury the pinstripe under clear than HOK urathane striping emamal must be used and it must be cleared. HOK is less user friendly as like all uros it pretty much dries on contact. 1 Shot stays wet long enough to wipe off a mistake and try again. I use 1 Shot 90% of the time as do many stripers.
The X-calibr is a good beginning brush, personally I much prefer the Mack series 10. I would advise starting with a 000 or 00 size with either the Mack or the X-caliber. Yet another choice is the Kafka #3 scroling brush, This brush turns very tight curves and can be used to do scrols as well as old school style stripes. hope this helps and good luck. AL
