Re: Issue #13
I didn't receive issue #12 and it's already time for you to prepare for #13.
You don't have a lot of time to take it easy in-between the issues...

Re: Issue #13
Most if not all magazines have a whole staff to publish a magazine
art director, graphics guy, lay out person, advertising guy, ect., ect.
your stuck with just me and Liz I'm afraid its the only way a magazine of this type can be published without a ton of advertising within to cover the cost of all those salaries, pay checks and the printing, shippiing costs
It takes me a bit longer too get it done without the huge staff but the end results are worth it, a magazine where useful content rules and advertising takes a back seat
we'll just have to muddle thru I'm afraid, I'm still commented to keeping the magazine to running very few ads per issue

Re: Issue #13
I still buy Air Brush Action ......but it sucks when I compared it to our magazine! Almost nothing but adds for the getaway and other garbage.
I wish we could find a way to get ours to more people!
Keep up the great work Don

Re: Issue #13
The magazine and this site are the BEST out there. I do look at some other airbrush sites but none help as much as this one. I have learned more here then I could have in a 100 years. just last week I took a Basic airbrushing class here in Iowa. I went to the class thinking I would do OK but Thanks to all the help and info. I got on this site the how-two's FAQ *** Darladidit *** I was the best in the class!!! wow did that make me feel good there were 12 of us and 11 of them were asking me how did you pick that up so fast. so I showed them the Magazine and told them about the site. Don I will be checking with the art store to see if they would carry your Magazine. I just want to say THANK YOU

Re: Issue #13
Don,
although I am still awaiting my first copy of the mag, I agree with Ron, I have learned a lot on this support site, I think (even though it is a lot of work) that this supplement to the mag is brilliant. I would not bad mouth any other attempts by others, and as SpiritWind mentioned, I too pick up copies of Airbrush action, because it was/is the only mag I have seen anywhere around here, and locally too. However I have not gained much by reading it, there is maybe one good article per mag, especially that pertains to newbies. That being said, and I suspect you too look at it, you must be rocking some boats somewhere as this latest issue has some back to basics in the tshirt section. Dots and Daggers, the stuff I have long since learned from you and your helpfull hosts. I patiently await my mag and suspect based on what I know from this site, will be speading the word to my local shops. I'll let you know. I don't know if possible, but have you checked with Chapters? they usually carry a wide variety, but I have had trouble finding an Airbrush Mag, and although I subscribe, it sure would have been nice to find in the store sooner than cruising the net I see now in wallmart that they are carrying airbrush supplies for modeling, as well as in the kids section for airbrush tattoos. Who would have thought that this is catching on so insanely.
Anyway, thanx and keep it up. I am sure if there is anything I can do to help, I would, as I am sure other too, as this site alone makes it worth while.
sincerely
Eric

Re: Issue #13
Holidaynation I already looked into Chapters trying to get it in. They deal with a large publisher and can only carry their material. We would have to sell it to the large publishing company for Chapters to be able to carry it. In a case like that it's all stores or nothing
I tried Don............ I 'll keep thinking about it

Re: Issue #13
Thanks guys
The problem with going that root is your extending them credit on the magazines you send them 60, 90 days or longer in many cases. I have spoken to folks (other small publishers) who have dealt with Barnes and Noble and not heard good things as far as being a small business and trying to deal with them. You have to have very deep pockets to market a magazine that way, with such small readership, a niche magazine if you will, dealing with airbrushing, custom painting it just doesn't justify the huge investment it would require. If you ask those in the bussiness how much $$ it would take to start a magazine $500,000 is the low side. The magazine would have to be advertising driven 40 to 50% advertising content to cover such an undertaking, not useful content driven. I'm not sure the airbrush commuinty needs another magazine like that nor do I have any interest in publishing such a magazine. Airbrush Technique hopefully will be the best reference tool you have in your collection as far as teaching you new airbrush, custom painting techniques and exposing you to new artist from all over the world without having to wade thru page after page of ads.
I do appricate your comments, thoughts and help please keep them coming as its a learning experiance for us all. This isn't a short term project I figured at least five years to get it off the ground we're only bearly three years into it.

Re: Issue #13
Don, stick to your guns. Your business mind and heart are 100%. I think you've got the right idea at what a magazine should be and how to make it happen. The only bad side is all the hard work and time spent keeping it as it is.
How long has the magazine been out? Not too long really and I myself haven't been air brushing for long either, but from what I've seen, it's a growing interest. It will take time for people to catch on, but more and more will subscribe.
One of my other hobbies is R/C (Radio controlled cars) and that too is a growing monster of a hobby. Every day there are new people joining up to the related forums and most of them are picking up air brushes eager to paint their own car bodies so I know there are more and more air brushers out there every day. They all just need to subscribe to your magazine!

Re: Issue #13
Thanks Darladidit one thing i did learn that helped allot was to keep my airbrush spraying square into my work not angling it my lines and dagger's look so much better it's things like that when you are new that you just don't think about and yes it was fun a young man next to me was having a ruff time he was using one of the brushes that the class had so I let him use my Iwata hp-c he said man that thing works good so I let him spray for a wile and when he went back to his 155 his work improved that made me feel good to help our teacher was really good his name is Shawn Palek a local custom airbrush painter small world turns out he lives 6 miles from me !! at the end of the class he painted a picture of Marlon Brando from the Wild Ones took him about 20-25 min. to do we all just watched him and asked questions his skills just make it look so easy but we all know better I took pictures of him working as the picture started to come together I will ask him if it's OK to post them before doing so just want to say THANKS AGAIN to everyone on the form for all the help

Re: Issue #13
After I have read the whole magazine and learned all I can, I plan on taking it into a couple of tattoo shops to see if they might be interested in setting it out for their customers to see. The worst that can happen is that they (the shop owners/artists) keep it for themselves and learn from the magazine.

Re: Issue #13
don anything I can do ,you name it and its yours !!!!!
body shops and bike shops I agree with and plan I taking my copy to a few I now when I get it .....just last weekend was at a yard sale and somehow ABing came up in a conversation...the guy paints cars on the side and asked me if I could work something out with him on his car . he would prep it I get creative with his Ideas and he would clear it.. I turned him down told him I've only been ABing for 4 months and am not ready for that kind of job yet....he was thankful for honesty and said when I was ready he wanted me to do it just for that reason !!!!!! he said he had a setup but didnt know how to use it"techniques" I told him about the website and how awsome it was he said he'd check it out"hope he does/did" hope I didnt lose a potential customer !!!!

Re: Issue #13
I agree with all the above comments, I would be honored to help promote this mag... I am yet to subscribe, but am interested in all the back issues, in which I think I will subscribe come payday and buy the back issues.
I have a pending interview with Mike Lavallee this month that I would like to use as an Artist Profile for the magazine, chances are that may not be till issue 14 even possible 14. I would be happy to ask Mike if he might be intersted in distribution through his shop??!!
Then there is the local tattoo shops and countless custom bike shops that when I recieve my mags I will let them check it out and see what they think??!!

Don, if you want to use my tiger painting I can send you a higher resolution picture. Just say the word.
I'm also working on a how-to, but it won't be done in time for this issue
