Default scrol on a pizza pan

Awhile back I got the Steve Kafka dvd and some of his striping brushes. Ive been struggling ever since. My lines are still very shakey but Im trying things I would never even attempt with my swordstripers, if nothing else all the practice is keeping me out of trouble, AL

UltraAl--your practice is paying off!!--I don't see a lot of shaking here, but if you say so--have you ever used a maul stick?? I've known a lot of painters with the whiskey shakes who never missed a lick & put in a full day, as long as they had their maul stick..I worked with one for years as a young girl, using quills & it sure helps with a precise stroke..as with everything else, it takes a little practice to adjust to it, but it's well worth the effort..your work is beautiful--all of it!!

Thank you Darla, I see you are a fellow Texan. No Ive never tried one of those mahl sticks I can see how they would be a great tool if you have to reach accross a hood or turnk, luckily my hands are rock steady, not even a hint of shake, its just a matter of brush control, the tight circles are killers, practice makes perfect, or at laest as close as humanly possible, like Steve's, or Wizzard's for example. BTW thses Kafka brushes are killer for freehanding flames. I can draw and stripe flames or outline them with my Mack 10's but for freehanding these Kafka's just flow. I will also give Steve's dvd a plug here, it is one of the best dvd's in my collection, I would rate it equal to the Wizzard's dvds which are also very good. AL

Where does one get a set of Kafka brushes?? I haven't done much lettering since vinyl graphics took over the industry, but I often miss it & it pleases me to find out that people still strive to learn the trade..I never worked a lot with stripers, but I learned to get the same effect with a long haired quill..to this day almost everything I do gets an outline--it's just not done unless it has one..you outline very well!!

You can go to Steve kafka's web site and buy them there. I like the #3 and #1, but Im just learning. Also The Eastwood Co. sells them. Pobably most online art stores, Dixie, Dick Blick etc:. Al

Here's an idea A still have: Go to the hunting store and get an aluminum ram-rod, then go to the toy store and get a "super pinky" rubber ball, use your xacto and make a deep cross puncture in the ball... IN THE BALL!! then stuff the ram-rod into the ball as far in as you can get it. Try to keep it all centered.
Now you have a bridge to rest your painting hand on while you hold the other end out of harms way, and keeps you steady.
Added bonus: You can add pieces to the aluminum ram-rod depending on your work size.
good luck let me know how you make out, your work has great potential don't give up.

Can't wait to see more. I've been considering trying my hand at Striping myself. Keep up the good work.

Scroll work is pretty tough to get balanced....yours isn't too bad really.....the masters make it look easy, but it isn't....even with the best tools and teachers aids. I got to hang out with Bob"Bobbo"Dunn at a panel jam in Texas a few years back and watch an old master at work...he was amazing to watch....his scroll work was also great but he did it with a liner brush....the Kafka's hadn't been introduced yet, so I can only imagine what he could do with one of those now...hehehe...I learned alot from him and John"large"Largent that weekend. It was a great time i'll never forget.....I've been hearin alot about those brushes....guess its time to get me one and try it.
