Default Skull and flames.

After 2 weeks of painting, I think I'm starting to really see improvement. I think I need to get better paint. Everything I've done so far has been done with plain ol' acrylic paint thinned with water on 8"x 11" card stock computer paper. The problem is the paint keeps drying in the nozzle and clogs the airbrush. I have to stop and clean it about every 4-5 minutes. Here is my latest effort:

No, I used a stencil I cut out to get the outlines. I did ,however, go back over all the outlines freehand. Today I might try one all freehand. Might even try a t- shirt.

I will definitely have to get some "real" paint. It's a bit pricey though and right now my wallet's thin.

Very nice effort brian-- I think you're getting a grasp on this craft quite fast for only two weeks--it sure shows that you could learn..Please try freehand-- I think you will find that it brings more personal satisfaction than working strictly with stencils & tape..but be prepared// you will be forced to rely on the fundamentals..As for paint--I use anything I've got & many times it's ordinary craft paint--you will suffer tip dry with anything you use & 4-5 minutes is way to long to wait to clean your tip.. I'm not even aware of it, but I clean the tip very often--probably each time I stop to think & take a deep breath..Learn to paint with anything you have!!--the airbrush is designed to spray anything of thin consistancy--I believe new airbrushers rely far too much on expensive equipment & paint supplies to gain success in their painting--when what it really takes is practice.. here I go again!!

Thanks for the encouragement Darla! I sort of figured what you said about the paint drying too fast. I guess I was just being hopeful that it was just the type of paint I had. I've always had to make the best of what I've had to work with, what ever I was doing, and usually did an outstanding job. Whether it was working on bikes and cars with crappy or homemade tools, or building a display shelf using nothing but a handsaw and scrap wood. I'm very inventive and resourceful, I think, so I guess I'll stick with what I got for now.
Somehow it makes the finished product that much more rewarding.

good job brian , I thought it was some of my problems were the paint myself.. but I figured ,that why go to more expensive paint to just practice with? till I think my pics have gotten good with what I have, then ill work on the same stuff with new paints....

keep up the good work
