I also have older: 2001first kart, a 96 Birel Ar 2, a 2001 Sodi t3 and a 2001 Coyote.

Alot of the racers up here are running the aussie Arrow kart, GOLD chassis are popular, the Birels are huge and we also have the marguays up here. Arrow , GOLD and Sodi are my favorites. Someday I would like to buy one brand new one and give my son a better chance. He made 8th overall at Mosport out of a 24 kart field.

We ran the old Birel for 1/2 the year and then the sodi. The first Kart was this year but we had a poor engine and didn't get it figured out till last 3 races. 19th overall in Jr heavey

We are switching clubs from Mosport to Toronto ( where Pauk Tracy cut his chops ) this season so again there will be a steep learning curve as we have never raced there more than once. Should be fun....WAY expensive as I have 2 kids in it. My youngest is starting his Novice year at age 10 ( due to budget issues)would have liked to have started sooner

here's his website...it needs updating though. It has a nice Gallery

cool
We found a guy who has a new Margay he is willing to trade us for the First Kart so we're off to do that today. I took Cody over to Daytona last week to watch the Kart races and Margay ruled just about ever class, he now believes Margay is the fastest kart. Cody practiced with Cory Reeves last week for two days, Cory is the superman in WKA sprint kart racing here in the states and races for Margay. If he (Cody) has it in his mind Margay is faster maybe he'll be faster in one its alot mental this racing game. As long as he's having fun we're headed in the right direction I guess.
It is expensive for sure but we do alot of Horse trading like with this First Kart and Margay.

Good luck! We have not found Margay to be as fast up here The arrows seem to really fly. It's like you say though. more mental than people realize. From what I gather smooth as silk is fast. No leaning in the seat. Sit up straight and let the G forces plant the rear tire on the corners for ya and make it a tricycle in the corner.

Very Cool! I bet he loves it!!! I remember being his age and going to the shore (NJ) .. I had to beg and beg to be allowed to ride the go carts! It seemed the race always ended way to fast!

Way cool pic, Don! That would look pretty cool on the side of the racing trailer...Your kid is lucky to have the support he seems to have from his dad!
