Paasche VL with car paint ?

Hello all,

I'm actively in search for a first airbrush. I've settle on a dual action already and siphon feed since i may use in the future large volume of paint (like clearcoat).

Now what will i use it for:

- Mainly for touch-ups on car: chips and scratches (small areas)
- Little drawing, a few no more (since i'm a noob on drawing)
- I was hoping using whats available in my areas, like car paints, housewhole paints.

If i can find a model that does it all with good results (not excellent, since i know that will be $$$), i will be happy. I had my eye on the Paasche VL with all 3 tips/needles.

I've had my VL for quite a few years now they are a good allround gun have done motorcycle custom and a lot of T/shirts money would not be wasted and for the uses you look to use it should be a good choice have used auto paints and createx do not know about house type paints but with the VL if you can thin it you should be able to spray it.

Thank you for your reply. Of what i've read, most people don't use the smallest/finest tip (#1) too much, so will settle for a medium to heavy tips if i happen to buy it, bt will i have a good atomization ?

Also, i will use at the most 10cc of paint at the time, will gravity feed will be a better choice vs the siphon feed ( i know i can use their small color cup in some set ) ?

Some people suggested me for the Iwata HP-C (large gravity feed), what does it have more to offer than the VL ? precision, better atomization, heavier paint acceptance ????

Yes, to all except the heavier paint part. add to the list lower spray perssure, more comfortable to hold, eaisier to clean and of course 2 - 3 times more expensive.
They are both airbrushes but built for 2 different purposes so to speak.
I really don't think you can fairly compare a bottom feed to a top feed.

I used a VL for a year, and I just began to use a HP-C+ since Xmas, and I would say you can't compare them.

Being a gravity feed, the HP-C is more responsive, faster than the VL, and needs less paint than the VL for the same job.

The atomisation is also better in the HP-C

A good set-up in my opinion wouls be an external mix airbrush for thicker paint and for larger surfaces, and a HP-C+ for finer details and when less paint is needed (a few drops) or many color changes will be done.

If you are looking for a cheaper gravity brush with a design similar to the iwata hp-c you could have a look at the badger 100LG with a fine tip... I have used one of these for the last year and it has served me well, it is my work horse brush. Of course it does not have quite the feel and finish as the hp-c but it is
less than half the price.
