Default any pinstripers around today?

Been doing some more striping. Don't see much of it around here but there's a forum for it so I guess I'll use it. Any one wanna give me the lo' down? Sorry about the flash from the camera.

Looks like your off to a good start....your lines are basicly the same width and your curves are fairly smooth....both will get better with practice.....Ahhhh, that nasty word "Practice".....hehehe.....I know I hate it too....and I need to do more of it myself.....it seems all my striping is spuratic so its weeks or even months at a time between jobs that need pinstripes, and I find myself out of practice each time one of these jobs rolls around, and I gotta spend an intire day or even two, just practicing before I feel comfortable with striping that flame job I just finished.

If I could offer one word of advice to you....I'd say get you some good examples of simple to med complex pinstripe designs and try to copy them for awhile instead of trying to invent your own design right now.....a nice design will still look pretty good even when executed poorly.....a poor design just looks....well,You know?

I just purchased a copy of "Pinstriping masters" from Amazon, that came in the mail today....I can tell already it was money well spent....its loaded with great referrence pictures done by some of the greatest pinstripers around.....i've only thumbed thru it so far but its got some great lookin step by step projects that i'm gonna have to come back too and work on so I can improve my striping skills....once I find a little extra time anyway....lol....grab yourself a copy, you'll be glad ya did.

Helmets are difficult to pinstripe anyway. Training your hand to follow the curve of the lid and change directions without widening or narrowing, takes a lot of practice. I just finished a helmet after not painting for about 15 yrs. I should have practiced a bit before striping around the flames. It turned out ok, but I was almost done by the time I got the feel for it. I’ve also found with pinstripe designs that sketching templates helps, because I struggle with right to left balance. I sketch it out and pick the best side, cut it in half, and use the sketch as a template to locate marker dots. Then all I have to worry about is the flow of the arc, and the stripe width. It helps with symmetry.

I have always enjoyed looking at a nice pinstripe design and very tempted to try it. I have never seen any books or brushes in the craft stores on the subject. . I know the brushes are pricey. I was wondering if the pin striping wheel models or ballpens work as well or are the real pro's locked into hairy brushes.

Way back last year there was a thread about the bugeler, Chucktx had bought one and liked it. Not sure where he got to, haven't seen hide nor hair of him in a few months. That thread has been purged from the forum.
I think the hard core pinstripers perfer the brush.

it takes a while to be able to stripe really well. the beugler is really expensive but they say it can't be beat for straight lines like on a car. for the wilder stuff and small designs though i believe a brush is the best bet. i think an average price is about $10. the key is practice practice practice practice practice and then practice some more.

100% first before i jump in to pinstriping,,,

I guess it was the Beugler I seen. Your right about it being expensive but if it works as well as described it might be worth the money.Sometimes that kind of stuff is more trouble than imagined and never works as well as described. Maybe Chuck TX will share his experience when he gets back to using the Ab forms again.. Thanks for all the input.

hey ya'll........yup, i still use my buegler. check my pics and all pinstriping around the flames are done with it, my avatar bike was the first thing i striped with it. i like it and the more i use it the better i get with it. the curves are much easer now. i dont know how it would do with intricate stuff, but there is a book out there where an artist does striping with it that rivals a brush. i believe his name and the book was in the purged posts.......any questions, ask away.....
