Angry Paint seapage under frisket ?

Greetings everyone !

I am having a reoccuring problem. I get half way through a painting on illustration board, with a sheet of frisket over my painting and after spraying and then going to lift the frisket sheet off my painting I find the paint has seaped under the frisket and ruined the painting. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong ? Also, sometimes when I lift the frisket sheet up it pulls up the painting as well, hence the painting is ruined....arg !
Any help would be appreciated.
I've included a pic to show you my disaster

I am also fairly new to this and have had the same probs. Some of the tips I have received are to spray a light coat of base color or clear to seal the edges. Then heat set till dry and then come back with medium coats of your next color.

if i remember correctly, if you are using any type of paint besides waterbase, the frisket will seep and stick to the painting. there are quite a few post about this......a search may give more info on the subject.....hope this helps....

Brandynne,
My students and I work with Hot press crescent illustration board all day every day. The problem you are having is the same as many of my Basic Airbrush students have in the beginning. What causes their paint to seep under the frisket is because they are spraying wet. In my class I am constantly preaching.......spray light and spray dry. You can always add more but it is difficult to take it away. As far as the frisket pealing the board,.. two reasons could be the problem.....cutting too deep (you want to cut through the frisket but not into the board) if you cut into the illustration board, the frisket is more tacky then the bond of the board, and it will peal. You might be sticking into the board when you use a blade to remove the frisket. But I would put my money on the fact that if you are spraying to wet and putting the frisket on the ill. board to soon the moisture from the paint is swelling the board and the frisket peals it easiy. Very common problem with spraying wet. We use matt frisket as opposed to gloss because it is not quite as tacky and easier to work with. The manufacture of frisket has changed drasticlly the last few years. Frisk film, used to me made over seas, now it is made elseware. I do not care for the new as well as the old. Inconsistant adheasive. We use about 500 yards a year. And no batch seems to be the same. Illustration board has also changed, not as good as quality as before. (another story) You can use vinyl transfer tape on illustration board, works great and does not peal the board. Hope this helps, if you have any more questions, post them. We have done just about everything with acrylic, ink, and illustration board you could think of. roger

Again, thanks...I'll check out vinyl transfer tape.

Brandynne.

My problem seems to be many times when Im spraying areas of black. Im too anxious to spray one dark layer of black rather than many layers building up to the dark layer, that I guess might be my problem..arg.
