Hey Guys, Hope U have LOTS of fun at DIS. A night race, Oh-boy, do those cars look GOOD "under the lights". A really nice race(except for those $#!* restrictor plates). I say "let 'em run without 'em", but NASCAR will NEVER let that happen. Haven't been to a Daytona race in YEARS.

The MAIN beef I have about the restrictor plate(s) is that restricting 'em causes "the BIG ONE" way too much. DrD

Default restritor plates

Rusty Wallace had the opertunity just receently to run at Talladaga WITHOUT the plate. He aproached the 220 mph mark and stated it real fun. He also stated that in NO WAY would he want to run in a pack of cars at that speed. Can,t say that I blame him. If any of our members get the oppertunity to be at a track, prefurably Daytona and take the Richard Petty ride along program DO IT! They will reach speeds of 170+ on the super stretch and average 150 for the ride. Nascar and ISC will not allow them to run any faster because of the liability factor. I know its a far cry from what Rusty did in Talladaga but its way cool. I had the oppertunity to ride with Dan Pardus on my ride and they clocked us on the back strech at 186+ and he got his ass reemed for it. I lucked out on the ride being I worked with one of his race team members. Personaly cut the cubic inches which will cut some hp with some airo changes to slow them down and toss the plate in the woods.

donp, I AGREE with the "aero" change(s), and the "cubic inches" too, and think that would help enough to get rid of the "plate(s)" They could drop the compression ratio some. They are just "packed in there too tight", and got no power reserve(s), which makes 'em "have to run right in there too close". I've been following this stuff for most of my life, and remember when they first put the plate(s) on the car(s). At that time NASCAR wanted to "tighten" the field 'cause "certain car(s) were running away from everybody else( SOME of the other "rule(s)" were to try to prevent so much cheating back in the "early days", or pre-"Modern Era" as they call it). They are STILL pretty good about "bending" those rules though. LoL . Even with the wicked speeds they run, a Cup car is NO DOUBT the safest ride you can get. Wouldn,t want to hit a wall at those speed(s), but better in a Cup car, instead of a Formula or Indy car, no doubt.

Seems like NASCAR could increase the weight too. Back when the Mazda(s) were "stomping" everything in sight, they made them carry an extra 100 lbs of weight to "even it up". Hey, NASCAR has the IROC series, but I guess they're not too fond of the SPEC racer(s) (that's what most "budget" LOL racer(s) are if they want to "factor out" the difference(s) in vehicle(s)).

The old adage still applies -

SPEED - How fast do you want to go ?, How much money do you have to spend ?

NASCAR is still getting more popular day-by-day, and it's great to watch, but I just don't know about SOME of their "choice(s)". It would be tough to have all that responsibility. It's like you said, they are concerned with the fan(s) and driver(s), and having some hurt or killed It was REALLY SAD when Dale Sr. died, but he knew the risk(s) ( as they ALL do) and he was doing what he loved to do. I've had my share of ride(s) / drive(s) on track(s), and it IS A RUSH

Prob'ly the best quote I've heard, from a "movie star-turned racer", who had run Sports Cars, Formula 4000, etc... and he was doingthe "Petty thing" (back when it first started), and he said -

"I've been in lots of race cars, and it's cool to get up to 160, 170, 180... , but with these, you get up to those speeds and STAY THERE" kinda' "puts it in perspective" doesn't it ?

It's STILL ranked as the PREMIER Motorsports series ( You've GOT TO ALREADY have a Championship in some other series, just to be CONSIDERED for a Cup ride, much less, to be able to get one )

You and Don have a GREAT time at the "ZOO" DrD

Default Its a money thing

Just like you stated how fast is how much your willing to spend. Think about the cars that would run away from the field on a regular basis. The ones with the sponcers that were willing to spend as much as it would take to stay out front. As far as bunching up the field to stop the run aways is bullshit. They did it for the sponcers. Think about it, acording to Nascar and the rule package they want to level the playing field right? The why is it there are teams out there that don't have a snow balls chance in hell in winning a race. Look at the Bush race from Friday, theres no way Wallace should have won and the only reason he did win is pure 100% luck. Provisionals should get tossed also. 42 cars quailfy and the last spot is for the previous year champion. How many members think Cope is going to win a race this year? IMO he's out there to fill the field like some 25 or so cars with only 15 or so that actualy have a shot at winning. If things were going the way Nascar wanted there would be a more diverse number of drivers in victory circle.
