Default adhesive residue

I have been using badger frisket film and have been having a problem with residual adhesive. I did read somewhere that most friskets sold here in the US are made by the same company just packaged under different brands. I have two questions:
1: How do i clean the piece after removing the frisket without damaging what I have done? I am using reduced acrylic paints which dry waterproof. Could I just wipe it down with soapy water, or do I even need to clean before clearing? I am using gesso canvas boards.
2: Is there anything I can do stop reduce this in the future without sacrificing the integrity of the frisket? I have used tracing paper sprayed with 3m repostionable adhesive before but find frisket easier to use as it doesn't tear (as much) when removing it. I also tried the 3m stuff with regular cling wrap but that didn't work very well- really hard to remove because it tears so easilywhen removing and moves around making cutting difficult.

Sir, I use Stretch Mask Friskfilm all the time, the trick to removing it without leaving residue is to gently heat it with a blow dryer as your removing it. This little trick works great for me, hope it does well for you also.
I have had a problem with the residue before I found this friskfilm, and the only way I know of to remove it, is to use a grease remover on it, and that can be really tricky if the residue is on your art work. I'm sure someone else will chime in on this with more info for ya.

Another old trick is to wear an old shirt when you are laying down your frisket.
Peel the backing off the frisket, then apply the frisket to your shirt, rub it a little, then pull it away carefully and place it where you wanted it.
This act takes off the bulk of the really sticky stuff, and most of the stuff that would have been left behind on your project.
Try it with some scrap material before you get into a project.

As far as one company making all the masking material, I know that's not true, if it was, everyone would have the same problems regardless of which brand name they bought it under.

The heavier weights of the material lend themselves better to the removal and reuse routine.

The heat trick is a good one, it is also helpful when you are trying to lay masking down on a compound curve or complex shape.

Good luck!
