2nd skull ever please critique

The first skull I've done was for the skull contest. This is my second attempt. This is a skateboard. The skull side is the "bottom"

Please let me know what I can do to improve.

i think the skull came out very good for a 2nd time out skulls and flames are my nemesis can never get them right the flower came out awesome all together very well done

Looking very good for only your second attempt at a skull. Remember that to get that 3D look of depth,... you have to use more shadows and highlights. A good example is along the sides,... as the side of the skull rounds back out of sight,... it is going to get darker and you can give this illustion by shading it abit. You can do the same with the teeth,... by darkening the areas between the teeth, and back by the molars,... you can fool the eye into thinking there is more shape there, and that it isn't as flat. You can use one of the colours like the brown around the teeth,... add a couple of drops of black,... and reduce it out until it's almost like water. This will allow you to build up the shawdow that you want a bit at atime. With it reduced this much,... go slow and keep the brush back from the work or it will spider on you. Lol,... speaking of spiders,... I like yours and the drop shadows,... well done!

Thanks Kicks!!! the pointers and visual are really helpful. I'm having a real hard time with the mechanics of the airbrush. "VISCOSITY/AIR PRESSURE/ETC" That spidering is a big "bugaboo" for me. Therefore shading is a problem. I can see the vast improvement you did with better shading.
You may not like the spider too much... you can't see it in this picture but the markings on the thorax are a red hammer and sicle.

Job well done.....very creative looking.......only thing just a bit, kinda, sorta out of whack would be the eyes......I like them just not the color .....keep up the great work and posting

Looks pretty damn good to me! What Kicks is suggesting is some great advise and you should do really well with it.
Kicks, how the heck do you do that with the pic?! That is an awesome way to show what you are talking about. Have to get me one of those!

Spiderman, I forgot the shadow on the skull side so here it is with it.
Yard, The eyes were supposed to be kinda freaky, So I tried to make them "goat eyes" and the color was supposed to be an evil "glowing" scary kinda thing.

I don't feel confident to try the shading Kicks demonstrated on this because I have to give it to them in 2 days and I won't have time to fix a screw up.

But I'm itching to try it on my next project.
