Here's an idea A still have: Go to the hunting store and get an aluminum ram-rod, then go to the toy store and get a "super pinky" rubber ball, use your xacto and make a deep cross puncture in the ball... IN THE BALL!! then stuff the ram-rod into the ball as far in as you can get it. Try to keep it all centered.
Now you have a bridge to rest your painting hand on while you hold the other end out of harms way, and keeps you steady.
Added bonus: You can add pieces to the aluminum ram-rod depending on your work size.
