Keep in mind the investments you have made in your brushes, not to mention your paintings.
That super small opening that the tip of the needle passes through can easily be jammed by bits of rust or debris. You have the same kinds of openings for the air to pass through in the nozzle caps. The filters are a really inexpensive bit of insurance to help you avoid lost time and money.
Keeping your air source and your paint well strained and controlled is the easiest step you can take to help you on your way.
