    Default The Forum Here

    Food for thought

Do you find our forum a place you enjoy visiting?

Are our forum rules to demanding? FORUM RULES

Would you like to see this become a forum where anything goes with no moderators or even the simplest rules? Where members can have at each other.

Does this web site represent our magazines well? Does it make you interested in learning more about the magazines and airbrushing?

Please use this thread to expand on why you voted as you did if you like.

I have to preference the above with telling you we have a great group of folks here and that very, very seldom has a post been deleted from the forum. Very seldom do the moderates take any kind of action other than starting topics.THANK YOU all for making this a great place to hang out.

Thanks to all those that subscribe to one or both of our magazines as its your support that keeps this web site going.

I am pre-newbie! This is my first post, however, I have spent the last fews days just reading the forum and learning. Since I got my airbrush for Christmas I have searched the internet over to find somewhere to learn about how to use an airbrush. Thank goodness I found this forum!

Thumbs up Re: The Forum Here

I enjoy visiting the forum very much-- It's entertaining & has become a very nice pastime..I don't find it hard to bide by the rules at all.. I think it's a matter of respect & good manners..I recently became accutely aware that I was entertaining & visiting people from all around the world, (while I sat here comfortably at my computer).. I don't know their religious or political convictions, & I know very little of their culture--& so just as if I was facing them in person--I need to use my manners..This forum (in my estimation) is a learning center & if it's intended to be that, children must be enqouraged to visit..playful vulgarity has it's place, but if the words need to be @!#$@% covered up, I think it's silly to use them on an open forum at all..& open hostility between members is upsetting to me- -If someone starts behaving badly towards me--please stop them!! I'm here to share ideas & information concerning the airbrush--I'm a tshirt airbrush artist (very low on the totem pole) & I hope to gain from being a member of the forum-- I say if it ain't broke-don't fix it!!--

    Hello everyone
I don't post many pics as much as i wish i could but some of my stuff is out there and the response and comments i've recieved actually help me see things from out the box.....and that in itself is a learning experience.

The people on this forum are a great bunch of individuals and it's amazing that because we all have the same thing in common (A-Bing) all these individuals come together as one to help and teach those that need help and guidance... I thank you all...I mainly do T-shirts but because of this forum and the detailed help i am trying different things... like helmets, metal, pins etc....lol I can go on and on....lol
all i can say is thanks to all and keep up the great work.

Well, after being here for a little short of a year, I can say this. If this forum didn't exist, I wouldn't be painting near the (relatively low) level I'm at now, if at all. This place has taught me way more about ABing than any other source thus far. And the friendly, knowldgable, and HELPFUL folks here did that for me. That's about the best compliment I can give.

I love these forums, the people, the information, the sharing and overall atmosphere.
I'm so sick of other forums that allow profanity, bickering, arguing and flat out name calling.
It's amazing to me having so many new people joining and from all over the world, that they seem to fit in so well with those that have been here since the beginning. I guess when you start a place like this based on sincere, wholehearted enthusiasm, anyone else that joins can't help but respect that and follow suit.

    Keep it up!

This site is great, it inspires me to keep trying and to improve, everyone is friendly and continually helping one another. When there is criticism, it is done in a positive light and done only to help that person advance his or her abilities. It is a very positive place to sign into. Some other forums that I have checked out get really nasty towards each other when they disagree. The world has enough negativity in it with out them adding to it. Keep the rules the way they are and people will continue to have a postive experience here. Thanks for the great site!

    Don,
You have a great website and a great magizine. Don't change a thing. Rules are a must and yours aren't that strict. I am a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and we look out for the children of the world and the senior members and the community. This website does the same. It doesn't matter what your age, color, religon, or artistic ability. Everyone should and is treated with the same respect in every post I've read. You have created a world that brings everyone together in peace and harmony. I can't thank you enough for being there for us. As for moderators, yes you need them. I don't consider them babysitters, but if they weren't there this site would be gone very quicly like other sites I've been in. I enjoy reading and learning from everyone here. Unfortunitly I have so many irons in the fire i haven't had time to even touch my brushs. But I'm here still learning, thanks again.

    Don,

What can I say that has not been said before me on this issue? I believe I speak for most of us that this forum is a safety zone for us. I know that if I were insulted when posting pictures I don't believe I would be spraying for long. I know that even if the work is not that good I will get nothing but positive response and great help on how to get better. I want to take this time to thank you just as the others have. You have a great site, nothing needs changed!

The forum in my opinion is great the way it is. I agree with most that moderation in a community this size is a must. I really have to say thanks so much for all the work you,the moderators and everyone else involved do to keep this community on a professional level and ongoing. You've all done a great job!

I wasn't going to comment, but the poll has stayed up long enough that I changed my mind. let me start off by saying I really enjoy this site, and I can tell that Don works hard at making it a great place for new as well as seasoned airbrushers, and I for one appreciate that. I do enjoy visiting and sharing info as well as viewing what others are painting and i'll continue to do so until i'm asked to leave.

Now as far as the poll goes, I feel its in extremes and not a fair poll.....the reason I say that is because the choices are "everythings great, leave it alone"....and "Everythings great, BUT, drop all the rules so that anything goes". So there's no middle ground......ya with me so far? Now, having said that, i'll tell you that I'm one of the few that voted to "relax" the rules....not because I have a problem with them, but because apperently others have....i've run into a more than a few members that joined up with other airbrush forums complaining that they had been booted from this site without knowing why....none of them felt that they had done anything wrong and all of them seemed truely puzzled as to why they were given the boot. So, that makes me think theres a problem or a glitch in the rules somewhere that might need correcting....thats all.

Do I think this forum should throw all the rules out the window and allow it to be a free for all where an anything goes mentality rules....Noooooooooo.....but maybe....just maybe, a rule needs to be changed or relaxed in an area or two.....I dunno....i'm just throwing this out there for all to ponder. Personally I think rules are great....we need a certain amount of them for our society to function as civilized humans. Too many rules becomes a dictatorship...no rules and you have chaos and anarchy....nobody wants either of those....at least nobody I know...lol.

Oh and one last thing.....Don, I know you pointed out recently to someone that they had to checkmark a little box that said they read the rules when joining up with this forum.....but ya gotta admit that very few people actually take time to read those things....Right?? After you've read one or two of them on the web you pretty much have an idea of what they all say and you just want into the site now, and you'll click on anything if it'll let you in quicker.....Am I still right?? Thats also applies to most any agreement that comes with software that your loading on your pc....with exception of the occasional new pc user, nobody reads that stuff....its all legal mumbojumbo for the most part. Same with the rules and regs of forums.....few people if any really stop and take the time to read that stuff. And really, most don't need to cause they are gonna act like civilized people and not need any rules....they have their own built in set

    Ok....well I guess i've said my peace....hope I didn't ruffle any feathers or get myself booted...lol

No worries Air thats why I started this thread
As to the poll it is short and to the point, yes it could have been worded better. Its very general in nature. This thread is to expand on your vote if you like.

In the interest of not using this thread to add to the politicin that goes on in this business I edited my post here.

There are only two people who have been banned from this forum in the past year, both know why believe me. Thats only two out of the thousand plus members that successfully registered last year here on this forum.

This poll/thread is here so you can let me know on how things can be done better here on the forum.

Fair enough Don. Whatever might of happened to cause a members to get booted isn't any of my business, I was only making comments as an outsider looking in, and not really asking any questions really per se. Ya know I don't think its possible to have a positive in anything without some negative to balance it out......I know i've never been able to just look at the positive side of something without wondering what the negatives are....and vise versa. I dunno if that means i'm an optimist or a pesimist but I have to view everything from both sides. I've always had a problem with the question of "Is the glass half full or half empty"?...LOL.

Your right, we all have those days....and in all honesty I suspected the folks i'd heard about gettin the boot were just sore cause they butted heads with another person having one of those days and got themselves ejected over something petty....no more,no less...So in the end I would like to state for the record I wasn't tryin to stir up anything....I was just throwing out some comments as a third party in the hopes that if there were problems within the rules area that my comments might bring attention to it from a different angle, and possibly bring about change.....thats all....I had no intent to belittle or possibly insult your desire or ability to keep this site running regardless of who's footin the bill....i'm sure its a major undertaking on your part and I for one admire you for it...I don't believe I could do it...heck I do good to stop by ever few days to see whats goin on and possibly help someone overcome a problem with their VL....lol, so I dunno how you do it and airbrush fulltime.....My hats off to ya!

Ok that enough politicin from me.....hehehe....i'm gonna go paint sumthin

I must admit, I sat on answering this question to, simple because it is all or nothing. I ended up going on the yes for this simple reason. It is one of many forums I participate on the net. Other AB sites, Biker sites, photography sites and others. And they all have their own styles and rules to them. You find the "A" groups on some, you find the ones that like to stir stuff up just to be a butt head... This site and others I participate have their rules and I am more then capable to adhere to the rules as they are. I been on other sites that are more lacks and you get more BS that isn't needed and creates a bad atmosphere.

And to be honest since this site is geared for all ages, I have learned the most here since I am not as intimidated to post my crap/work here to get a nice positive critique on how to improve my work (thanks darla and others). Plus now that I am in the forward motion I can now help others here that are a step behind me... and it is due to the fact that I didn't have to deal with unwanted irritation. Trust me I can dish it out as well as receive it, but sometimes after a hard day of work I don't want to deal with it, cause I too can be one of the BIGGEST RICHARDS anyone here has seen.... so I voted keep as is....

As I said no worries Air Fx

Anyone is welcome on this forum, web site as long as they stay within the few, very few rules set forth that make this place what it is. Weather a person likes me personally or not, weather we'd sit down and have a beer should have nothing to do with taking part in this forum or the magazine. They are both about airbrushing, custom painting not me Don Johnson.

Anyone no matter what kind of airbrush they use, no matter what paint they use, no matter what forum they hang out on is welcome to have their work published in the magazine. Its the only Airbrush, Custom Painting magazine that can happen in.

My personal likes or dislikes have no place in running eather the magazine or this forum, content which is informative to our readers is the only requirement in what gets published here on the forum and in the magazines.

The rules are no more than a guide line stating under what conditions I'm willing to spend my money to keep this forum up and running. I believe they have served this forum well I also believe it can be better which is why I started the poll and this thread.

They are all or nothing questions yes but the thread is open to expand on your vote should you wish to.

Air Fx there will always be those out there who find fault with what I do or don't do I respect them for that I also ask them to take postive steps to correct what they believe I do wrong. If you don't like the magazine get off your butt and send us an article or articles to help us improve it, don't like the forum get off your butt and help us figure out a way it can be done so it supports itself $$$ beyond what I'm willing to pay for, I'll be happy to flow with the changes, I welcome them. To sit back and complain, piss and moan is only self servering and improves no ones condition.

I voted to keep it like it is.
I'm a part time airbrush artist and graphic designer who actually can't draw but loves to doodle, some of my best idea's can be found on bar napkins and the top corner of some newspapers laying around my art room.
I recieved a subscription to the magazine for Christmas. I spent a couple of days slinking around the website and this forum and observing what was going on until I decided that this was/IS the koolest forum going as far as input and output from/to it's subscribers. Heck, half the folks on here I would love to meet in person just to share in the obvious energy they have when giving tips to the newbies.
The rules are easy enough to abide by. I'm just now getting the hang of this forum, changing the rules might throw off my rythem.
If there's a way to help Don pay for this site and all, I'm sure one of the members of this great forum will come up with it.
I may not be able to help others with there craft yet, but I have definitely been helped by others on here whether they know it or not.
Keep up the good work Don!!!

    Oooops my bad,

I am very new to this forum, and forums in general. I admit I am one of those who clicked the box without reading the rules. However, (and I will go read them) I have not had any discomfort in being here, and figue general consideration for others usually does me fine. I suspect if I was violating something, that I would be warned, because I am sure it would be inadvertant. Besides malicious comments help no one, unlike constructive critisim which can help all. I didn't vote at all, as I am new hear but would just like to thank Don for making this site possible and comfortable, as well as the users I have had the fortune to have interacted with. The folks here are truely helpfull, and friendly.

ps.Airfx, I too can't figure out if the mug is half full or half empty, but have realized in either case, it still needs to be topped up.
