Thread: Banner Sig

Don, I love all forms of art, even some peoples sigs can be amazing little snippets into the real person behind the sig. But in saying that I also have to agree with you that I believe we have enough graphical content without adding extra load.
But this is just my thoughts brother, lets see what others think.

I dont feel banners are needed, if you want advertisement there are plenty of free websites out there"myspace, freewebs"just to name a couple,set up a site and put the address on your profile.....

Mayhem, do you has the type of banner that don were talking about, I am asking for an example so that I can understand

Bray, I DON'T think this forum has seen a lot of abuse of banner use but I've seen what I think Don is discribing on others.. I believe it to be like posting a large banner (square) at the end of your post @ & every time you post, advertising your website or business & it can become a little tiresome especially when you're trying to find something in particular that pertains to the discussion at hand..

I have some samples here Ray, i'll just attach them, one of these or something like it is called a signature image, and it is automatically put on the bottom of each message you write, while they look great they do tend to add overhead onto a forum and slow the system down a great deal.

At one time I had one on another forum but got rid of it for the reasons stated above. For a while it was like everybody had one and it really was distracting. I agree with Mayhem that a link to where ever is enough.

thanks rowie & egneg , I seen banner before on the web but did not know what they was called and the word banner confuse me ,nothing like banners being pull in the wind behind airplanes

I gotta say no to banners just for the fact that it adds to page load/time for most dial-up users..links work just as good, not to mention I would tend to click a link faster than a banner...pop-upphobia...LOL

Good to see someone is thinking about us dial-up users bodyfx.
It gets real tiresome with large images alone but to add more downloaded info is gonna drive me to the next solar system.
I have no say in internet connection at my current residence so dial-up is what i deal with.

I say if your thinking about doin the banner some of them can get pretty big and out of hand. And like u said lag the sistem down.

I would suggest maybe just have a link posted instead of a big bulky banner.

The banners don't bother me, but, I can see where it could be a distraction or amount to unnecessary time to load the page. I see that by selecting the persons name above their avitar or picture that a drop menu appears giving the opportunity to learn more about the artist. Maybe their banner could be included in that menu or even in their gallery, for those who want to learn more. I am afraid I don't know enough about web sites to say for sure that this would even make a difference. That's just my two cents worth.
