When reading a airbrush article does the brand or type of airbrush the author of the article use's matter to you? Does it have an influence on the kind of airbrush you might purchase next?

    Don,
I will say no for a few reasons. The airbrush is different in everyones
needs. And so are the paints. It has often been said here that it is the user.
And after getting going again the last few years, nothing is more true. Later on when learning certain brand air brushes may be better for some things,
their is truth in that. It just seems to me that some of the top known
airbrushers are pushing products more than airbrushing. Airbrushing has come along ways since Big Daddy Roth started doing it in the early 60's. I am tired
of the same big name artist pushing the same products. I could go on and on
but its only my opinion. I may be way off course here.

Nope, not for me, anyway. I learned on Paasches, & they've served me well so far. Also got a nicer Iwata for illustrations, but I really don't use it all that often.

I agree with what's already been said... I think it's like lawn mowers or coffee makers or any other gadget. What's comfortable & practical for one person isn't the same for the next guy.

Having said that, I do like to know what they used for materials, guns, mask, etc. when possible, just out of sheer curiosity. Never know when I might run across something product-specific I'd like to try some day.

It does to some degree influence. by that i mean i will read about more than one product then just one type/brand. true what may work for one person, wont for another, but in my experience over the years (and not just brushes) it does help to get input before making a choice. Having said that, there is also a difference in someone PUSHING a product and REVIEWING a product. i was going to get a paashe vl dbl action, but when none were available, and the iwata was, i knew from reading that iwata's were a good brand, and the bcs was a good choice for beginner to expert depending on what you are going to do. Plus would fit with what i am planning on gettign into, so reading did influence my decision.
Main thing is most of the time take what you read and ask yourself, 'will this fit my needs' or are they just trying to push a brand'?

I think as far as articles in the magazine goes, it helps to know what type of brush and paint is being used.

I agree with what has been posted so far and I think everyone is hitting on certain things. For experienced painters, it's not going to matter because they have become comfortable in their equipment, paints and use of each, but for the beginners out there, it is an important thing to concider. It helps to understand paints, brushes, surfaces, techniques and the art being applied.

At least, that's the way I see it. I've been into ABing for a couple of years and I've done a lot of research. I feel very knowledgable, but lack the skill and ability due to lack of time to practice.

personally i think it does effect the purchasing.

from my own personal experiences, i always want to know what the "pro's" use and would rather buy something that a "pro" would honestly endorse before an untested or un endorsed product. of couse this depends on who is endorsing and what they are endorsing. i wouldnt buy a computer that paris hilton endorsed.

    for eg.
sports figures and celebrities get huge bucks to endorse products for a reason. that reason is simple. celebrity endorsements increase sales in a huge way !!!

Dont support TCP Global..aka airbrush depot, spray gun depot.... they are a bunch a weasels and thieves.

    Nope(ish)
When I was first starting out and eager for information, I was influenced by both articles and adds. I know I found myself leaning towards a certain brand endorsed by a certain artist in a certain magazine. However it actually led my to do more investigation which in turn led me to try different brushes. I think as a newbie one finds themselves more susceptible towards that type of thing, but the information can be valuable for research. I like to know what everyone else is using for their pieces, but find with experience, comes less tendancy towards being influenced by others.

I'd just like to add that, while the type of brush the author is using may not influence my purchase of the same brush, the article itself may influence products being used in general. Like a stencil or paints or maybe the technique itself might make me want to run out and buy supplies so that I may try the technique being shown.

The articles themselves are definately influencing. They make me want to try new techniques and try areas of ABing I've not yet touched on.

    No it doesn't.
First I can't afford to buy all the different airbrushes even if I wanted to. I also have the advantage of having a lot of people to talk with about these items here on the forum. There are brushes I would like to get someday like an Iwata for really fine work and quick color changes, but for now I am most happy with my brushes.

I do like to see all the equipment information and paint types as the others have said. It helps me to understand the articles and if I want to try to reproduce or attempt a project it gives me a starting point. I like the brands of paint I am using and my airbrushes, so I like to see how, if possible, I can subsitute what I have with what they have used.
