    Default Week From Hell

I was interrupted on Sunday morning to the phone call from my banks fraud department questioning some of the purchases on my Visa Debit Card which obviously draws directly from my bank account. Long story shot someone had stolen my card numbers and charged a total of roughly $950 dollars. The bank will be investigating it and dose not know when the money will be reimbursed to my account. If it dose not make it by the end of the month Mortgage and bill will not get paid. Life just sucks and keeps heading that direction. Protect your money and don't use those debit cards unless it is a secure location and the card never leaves your hand.

That sucks, hopefully you get sorted out. A friend of mine had his identity stolen and they did a lot of damage. For every new technology there is 10 time the technologies trying to crack it. Hope it works out for you!

Luckily the fraud department questioned the purchases right away or I could have been totally wiped out and unfortunately we are a family that lives paycheck to paycheck so it would not take long for us to be out in the streets.

We do know the stores that the thief used my card numbers at, so the police said they will be calling the stores for the surveillance tapes in hopes to catch the people on tape. I JUST HOPE MY BANK TAKES CARE OF MY END and the police catch the guilty. Thanks everyone for the kind words.

Fred, some people have all the luck, and you seem to be hoarding all the bad stuff! Man o man! Sorry to hear about your problems and hope everything is put back in its proper place!
I was out to my car yesterday and found out someone had ,er, borrowed my license plate. Not a costly thing but time consuming when you consider police, new plate, all when I had a schedule of sorts.
    Keep us posted!

Shane, I hope you reported the theft of your plate to the authorities, the possibility that your plate was used to help desguise a stolen vehicle, or a vehicle that was used in the commision of a crime means that your reporting it may help stop the criminals before anything worse happens.

Fred, man, what do you say at a time like this?
I hope that they catch the thieves and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. I hope they get it all resolved quickly for you.

This is the reason they should have our photographs and maybe a signature, thumbprint or retinal scan on the cards, and require All vendors to check ID on EVERY use of a card. I know some people get miffed at having their ID checked when they go to make a purchase or transaction with their card, but it's us, the card holders that are really protected by these practices. It always worries me when vendors or retailers take my credit card without checking my ID.
I always wondered how bright the banking industry is by requireing us to put a signature on the back of our cards. It seems like that just gives the thief something to forge/copy our signature from.

Fred, hope they find these guys. Keep in touch with the police officer who is investigating this and make sure he has all the documentation he needs. Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the oil. Shane, as long as you reported your plate stolen to the police and to the DMV and got new plates, you shouldn't have any problems. As Font mentioned, it is very important to report a stolen plate as you never know what the thief is going to use it for.

Sorry guys, I didn't mean to make this about me! Yes, I reported it missing. The last time I used my car was Friday, until Monday. The police installed the new plate with security screws, they are none -removable unless I come back to them to remove them. I noticed that Fred had stated that they had got his credit card numbers, which made me assume that possible a statement out of the garbage or one of those hidden camera deals. Shredders, or burning statements is also a recommendation. Racking my brains on how to rip someone off is just not my thing, I just prefer thinking about nothing lol, but being thorough and complete just seems to be such a necessary habit to develop, not just as a worker, but as a legit citizen!

Thanks Guys. A debit Card or Visa Debit card that draws the money directly from your bank account, so that you do not pay any finance charges like a credit card. Our debit cards are a Visa debit card that is issued from our bank and can be used as a form of id or used just like a credit card.

We grind all our statements and paper work. We think either our banks database was hacked into and a bunch of card numbers were stolen and the bank is reluctant to disclose this for fear of loosing customers. The other thing may be that when my wife used our card at local restaurant the day before that the numbers were stolen and soled to a contact out of state. The police said that they do this so that they do not get connected to the crime locally. It is a crime ring type thing. The thief's use your card for merchandise and then pawn what they buy to get cash for whatever they need. They obviously had a fake card made and made three purchases in Michigan, one test transaction at one store for a small amount and then two large purchases at a rite-aid store. I have been told never to use these debit cards in any situation where people take the card out of site like at a restaurant because you never know what the server dose when they walk away.

Well the week just keeps getting better and better or should I say worse and worse. On top of the card number issue my wife and I made a decision to purchase a 2007 town and Country last month because the cost of keeping my old Venture on the road was going to cost $900 just to pass inspection. Two days after we took the 2007 T&C to Delta sonic to clean it up real nice after the wash was done we left to visit my sister in-law. upon leaving their house I walked past the front of the Van and saw that the front bumper had a big crack in it. I called delta-sonic and toled them my car had been damaged while going through the wash or in the interior detail area. After a month of calling the customer service for the claim I finally got an appointment for today at 12 noon to meet with the district manager to look at the damage. I got to delta-sonic to find that the meeting had been canceled and I was not called. Week from Hell part two.

A mate at work had his Visa debit card ripped off in the same way. He was called by his bank and asked if he was in South Africa at the moment, apparently he'd just bought a load of beer and spirits.

His was done when he was in a restaurant in Spain on a work trip, it was the only time he used that card as he has a company card that most places accept, and the bank confirmed that it's a big problem in Spain at the moment. He got his money back in around a week, just before his rent was due.

Restaurants are the usual place for this to happen, they take you card away, and have a card reader behind the counter that reads all the info so it can be cloned onto a blank card.

How many of us happily let our visa/mastercards out of our sight in restaurants?

    Hope your's gets sorted soon.
    But.....what if Google is wrong?
