    Default 1936 Dodge Maiden Voyage

Well guys and gals, this past fortnight has been nothing short of interesting to say the least!

I will break it up into 2 parts, the good and the bad with the bad parts first.

Firstly, somehow nearly 3 weeks ago I injured my neck and left shoulder, this has made it imposable to sit or lay down properly so I have also been unable to sleep in a bed for the past 2 weeks either.
AS a fair number of us old folks know, there is so many ideas about pain management out there and so far 90% of it has proven useless.
1 part was on Tuesday where I was given a patch to help me out, to cut a long story short, I nearly ended up in a coma and lost 2 days in a worse position.
Then Friday I find that the company that I have been hanging out to pay me for all these months of work have now gone under and left me with nothing, so now Xmas is even more screwed than before.

    Now to the good stuff!

As some here would know the main reason for buying and building the 36 dodge is due to a promise I made to my father many years ago, to build/resto/rod a mid 30's Chrysler or Chebby as he loved them when he was younger and always wanted one. Since he is not long for this world I threw everything I have into this project.

Well, thanks to the invaluable help of a few friends and the priceless advice of my friends here today became the realization of the dream and the accomplishment of a promise.

Here is Dad and I in the old girl. Dad is on oxygen and confined to the hospital, but I dadnapped him for a while.

On the way down, the Holley developed a few dead spots and the old 265 was pinging it's head off even with fine tuning of mixture and timing, causing a few nervous moments.

I had to give up driving duties after the Koo-Wee-Rup road roadworks, my neck and shoulder just couldn't cope any more. so my brother reluctantly took over, he hates, ok hated, old cars.

    We have a new convert!

The drive down was brilliant! She is still bloody noisy as I have no time to put in sound material and full upholstery but it was magic! Rattles, wind, noise and all.

    The highlights!

1/ Dad got the biggest kick out of the car arriving and when we dadnapped him for a quick drive.
2/ My wife Kathy, who is not a car person at all! even wanted to take her for a drive and actually enjoyed herself (wobbly gas pedal and heavy brakes not to be mentioned).

3/ My daughter Jade, who previously would not be seen dead near or in the car has now fallen in love with it!

4/ All the girls loved it and said it felt like being driven around in a Limo.

Other than that I can honestly say that this was one of the best days in my life, I actually completed a project.

    Final Pictures

Sorry if this is a bit long winded but I am still on a high.
She might be rough n rusty but she's all mine.

Wow Rowie this is great news about the car, the story, the completion, and you and your Dad! What an awesome job you did even amongst the struggles you have had to endure through. Everyone looks so happy in the pictures, it is no wonder why you posted so many. I would have too. I am very proud to know such an upstanding person. This is to cool of news for us all to get to share from you, and definitely a priceless experience for you as well.
