Ralph, it's good that you are trying your hand at stuff. Stretching your boundries is the only way to grow your skills and knowledge.

For your fire and all your painting, you really need to work at a light touch when spraying, and at your patience or impatience as the case may be.
Don't feel that you have to get things done in a few minutes. I say this because it looks like you are trying to crank stuff out with a heavy hand.
Try doing your drills, but doing them using as little paint as possible, I don't mean thinning your paint or using transparents or candies, but just not pulling the trigger back so far, or trying to paint an area or object in one pass of the airbrush. Keep it light and flowing, you'll find that you can get all kinds of cool shading and textures from that one color in your cup, and that things like the fire will come much more easily to you. But it does take some practice and diligence. Getting out of the habit of spraying all the paint all the time can be tough for a lot of people. But you can do it!

Hey Ralph, Fontgeek has given you some great advise...... less is more over time... building the color like he said with small amounts of paint.... and on your fire, you are following the same lines each time you add to your flames to build them up, you want to mix up the movement and make the base of the fire wider and hotter... hotter I mean with more yellow and white yellow.... As for the canvas, I like what I am seeing there, just take your time with it and begin to add some detail to it and remember less paint is more..... keep up the good work Ralph... and don't give up bro... you can do it....
