Thread: SG100 Intercoat Clear Question

I am painting a helmet using Dupli-Color as my base and Auto Air for the artwork. My question is, can i use HK's SG100 intercoat clear to protect the base, then apply the Auto Air paint, and then apply Dupli-Color clear as the final step. Didn't know whether this mixture of the 3 would be compatible with one another. Thanks for your time and help!

Thanks for the reply. I'll give a test panel a try. The Dupli-Color final clear is in a quart can. I buy it from my local Advance Auto parts. So I'll be spraying it with a gun. I assume the formula in the quart can is the same found in a rattle can. Not knowing the chemical properties and what they do when applied together is what puzzles me. HOK SG100 says it contains Acetate, Xylene, Ketones, Toluene along with various resins. Dupli-Color says it is an Acrylic Lacquer containing the same chemicals mentioned in HOK SG100. In my uneducated way of thinking, it would appear that they might be compatible with one another. However, I think a test panel, as you suggested, is in order. Hope all goes well, and by the way, that's a great looking batch of puppies you have!

It got so confusing for me at one time in my starting days I made my own formula:
Whatever type Id use as a primer/base, use the same type for clearing.....[very un-scientific, just like a southerner ahahaha] but it worked..then I went to uros and forgot about the others.

I never knew our Advance here carried it until I was in there one day and saw it. They always had the rattle cans. Being as lazy as I am and not wanting drive 15 miles and back to the paint store, I picked some up. Have had it for awhile now and thought I'd give it a try. Your observation of using the same products from base to clear is probably the best way to go anyhow. I think the unscientific, southerner way is the category I fall in as well The helmet is for my cousin, so if I mess it up he won't give me too much grief. He's a good guy and probably will laugh it off and still take me fishing!!!! Blood is thicker than paint.

I would say, as long as your not spraying enamel over acrylic, or vice versa, ya should be ok, if the formulation is the same.
