...and with a few question about Paint.
My name is Gary and I used to airbrush with a friend of mine 10 years ago back in NJ. he was teaching me the ins and outs of paint and prep and we used nothing but HoK. Most of our work was automotive, helmets, motorcycles, etc. etc.
I moved to FL back in 2001 and have not picked up an airbrush since but am now diving back in except this time, I am on my own and will be painting in my garage so I have decided to go with the Auto Air paints to stay "green" so to speak but I have a bunch of questions if I may and I'm sorry if these are posted through out but to save time from searching I figured I would ask.
In the Auto Air line up I see the regular Auto Air and the newer Autoborn paints. Is one more for use as a base coat while the other is more for the desgin work or are the Autoborn's replacing the Auto air?
It says on their site that the paint is already reduced and ready for spray but I have seen a lot of you are reducing it with a reducer with a "P" code? How much are you reducing it?
Is cleanup in the brushes done with water? If so, any special kind such as distilled?
From what I have read it looks as though there is more of a drying time then with Urethane's. How long to you all see with it. I was used to spraying a color then re-masking it right away and moving to the next color. This looks like it is longer and may requite a hairdryer or heat gun?
Is an adhesion promoter needed?
any issues with re-taping with blue tape for fine line tape after a color is put down and dried?
Anything different needed in terms of prep vs. prepping to use Urethane?
I am sorry for all the question but the water based paints are new to me and all though Auto Air has a lot of this info on their site, I figured it would be best to ask all of you who are using it. Just trying to be prepared when I start painting again.
Thank you all in advance.
