Default need help with my jun air compressor

just got my jun air 15 liter compressor and im having my worst nightmare come true. it runs for about 40 min then stops. anyone know enough about jun airs to tell me wats wrong or if this is normal. i thought these compressors were made for long durations of use given they cost sooo much. it is used so maybe the previous owner sold it to me broken. any suggestions guys? Thanks

Did you check the oil level?

Most of the models have an autoshutoff if they get too hot, and a pressure shutoff when they reach the pressure level you set.
How much pressure and volume are you trying to get it to produce?
They aren't made to push enough volume for spraying cars or working HVLP guns for more than a couple of minutes.

Are you running the compressor on an extension chord, if so is it long, and or lightweight? That puts a load on the motor that makes it strain and get hot in a hurry!

As Don suggested, check your oil level, it should be half way up on the sight bubble.

Also check to see what you have the pressure set at, if it is set low, then the compressor only goes a little beyond it, then shuts off til the pressure drops a certain point before it kicks back on.

I've had my Jun-Air for close to 15 years, and it still runs like a top. I did find out about the extension chord the hard way though. It didn't do any long term damage, but the heat and worry on my part made it more than worth while to get a good heavy duty chord instead.

Mine is a Maxi-6, though I know they make a larger model, and smaller ones like yours. While they are great compressors, they can't do everything.

You can contact Pacific Air Technologies in Mission Viejo California, they are the authorized service and tech people for Jun-Air, and you won't find nicer people either.

the oil level was about 3/4 full on the glass bulb. the compressor would full to 120 psi then refill once it got down to around 90 psi. i had my regulator set for 60 psi. im doing t shirt work. cant figure out why the green light comes on for only a few seconds then goes off and the compressor wont start working at all. it was only one day before when it seemed to work perfectly. im not using any extension cord. think it might be the oil i use. im using oil for silentaire compressors. the guys at airmagination told me thats about the same as jun air oil since both are made for silent compressors. the last time i was able to use the compressor it did get very hot after about 20-30 min of use which seemed a bit strange to me. it automatically shut off to cool and after that it hasnt started up fully, only the green light appears. this is giving me such a big headache, postponing alot of business. thanks for all the advice

Oil is oil if ya ask me LOL I think those little silent compressors are over rated and way over priced just my opinion. That's why I like the bigger ones ,more volume of air capacity less running time. My 250 dollar Wal mart compressor works GREAT ya its a little noisy but only runs for about 50 secs at a time when it starts up in use. And if it happens to mess up I can take back to wal mart and exchange for another. If I had to have a quieter one i would make a box lined with foam insulation and have a hole with a small fan on it to cool then use it as a cover. I know this works well the power generators on the carnival I'm on have the same type of set up to make them quiet.

i wish that could work for me but i airbrush in my dorm room alot when im doing detailed shirts that take too long to do when im out at my booth. roommates would cry if i had a loud one. if i had my own shop to do this i would gladly get a sears or walmart compressor and just put the compressor in a backroom, and have a long hose to come to where im airbrushing.

Hawks, it sounds like the autoshutoff switch is not working, I would contact Jun-air or Pacific Air Technologies and see what to do, it may be an easy cure.

I have a big noisy compressor as well as my quiet ones, The big one is okay if I HAVE to use it, but man, that noise level gets old in a hurry, it makes me jump when it kicks on.

I bought a jun-air in a pawn shop the other day, it was a great find for $120 bucks, right. When tested in the pawnshop it ran great, but when I got home I found it over heating with the green light coming on and off in 2min cycles. I fixed the problem by removing the control assembly and cleaning it with some electrical equipment cleaner from radio shack. Also cleaning the moving piston and spring were the 2 air hose's connect above the air tank. This seemed to be one of the main problems. The air from the compressor has debri in it, which will travel in the whole system, causing moving parts to malfuction. On the compressor thier is a device called a kliton, when they go bad, it will cause the compressor to over heat and run only short periods. The compressor over load located in the same area when bad will cause the same problems. You can, if you are the techincal type remove these parts and match them up to any appliance parts supply co, Like Sears. I'm self employed air condition contractor/ service tech.:cool
