    Default Connecting compressor to airbrush?

Afternoon chaps and chapesses, I'm just getting all my gear together to start my journey into the world of air brushing and need a little help.

I have 6 litre (i think) compressor which runs into a water regulaor, I've managed to use a spray gun with this which was connected with hose and clips, but need a different setup with the air brush.

The regulator has a screw connection, the outer diameter of which is 0.38 inches, or 9.6mm, I presume the inner diameter therefore to be around 0.25 inches - does a quarter inch sound about right?

    it looks like this.

What's the best type of connector to go to my airbrush now? The air brush connector looks like this:

Where the inner hole is about 2mm

I presume I need another regulator/water trap at the air brush end with around 8 feet of hose to allow the air to cool, is this correct? So I'd run quarter inch inside diameter line from the regualtor to the water trap, and then thinner hose to the airbrush?

I'm a bit lost and there aren't any craft type shops local to me to give me a hand so if you guys could point me in the right direction, either via ebay or somewhere else I;d be much appreciated.

Based in the UK by the way.

Nice to meet you all and hope you can help.

    Cheers

    Ryan

The 3/8" (0.3785") fitting you have can be used with an adaptor to get to the standard 1/4" (0.25") fitting most airbrush hoses use at the compressor end. The fitting you show with the barbed end is typically used with a vinyl hose or tubing. This tubing is commonly used in Europe, but more and more airbrushers are going to the use of the braided hoses, they tend to kink less, and last longer, and they also don't have anywhere near the amount of problems with leaks that the vinyl hoses have.
If you are using the compressor for other work that requires the larger hose or pipe size (the 3/8"), then you might consider using quick-connects for your hoses and tools, then you could put the 3/8" - 1/4" adaptor on a quick connect so that you can use any*of your tools without having to resort to the use of spanners (wrenches) to change out your setup for different tools or hoses.

Ah thanks, that's very helpful. Am I likely to be able to find a hose that'll link 3/8 to a 1/4 vinyl push fit?

I'm mostly scouting ebay at the moment, there's plenty on there isn't there!

It may work out easier to buy a ready made air hose, rather than try and make one up your self. Something like this Amazon.com: 6' BRAIDED AIRBRUSH HOSE 1/8"-1/4" for Iwata Air Brush: Kitchen & Dining. It's the sort of thing that's usually on eBay as well.

Note: I'm not sure what fitting your airbrush has, what brand is it? The one above fits Iwata.

My compressor has a 'reducer' on it, that screws onto the 1/4" thread, then has a smaller diameter screw thread that matches the hose for my Badger air brush.

I'd look up a compressor or air tools shop in your area and go and talk to them, take the airbrush, the connector and pics/measurements of your compressor.
    But.....what if Google is wrong?
