Default Compressor / air source question

Being rather new to all this, i am looking for advice for the purchase of a compressor or other air source for somebody on a budget, but looking for something to get started with.

Ive ruled out propellant cans due to performance and individual cost per can, i would rather buy something that will last a while.

so i guess the question is, what kind of compressor should i look for?. ive read the guides and realise that the diaphram type may give a pulsing effect, but is this really that noticable?

Well what is your budget, where are you going to be painting (house or apartment) what about noise, how much is allowed?

If noise is not a major factor, I would go for something like this
    http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=42321
This unit goes on sale for $84 every other month. Only word of advice is I would ONLY buy from HF if there is a local store you can go to, shipping is stupid to spend on something like this, for the adition of shipping cost you could buy something similar at sears or wallmart.
The bigger the thank the less often it runs.. so it will be noisy when it runs, but it will only run every so often.
As far as diaphram pumps go.. you might as well blow into your airbrush ..

Last disclaimer. HF tools are cheap and far from top of the line, but they do the job if not used in a professional situation. If it works out of the box, you are usually good to go.

i may need to get a longer hose and put it in another room then

noise isnt that much of an issue, at least at first, but i will see. i have the option of borrowing a HUGE one in january, but as i live in a small apartment, it would have to live in my garage where theres no power and be brought in when i need to use it - ho hum..... thats why i need a small one really . something thats easy to carry

Excelent, thanks for that info. yes, ive just googled (UK) and have found a few suppliers of Iwata etc compressors. i really do need a suitably quiet unit i think. if not, i will probablyput off using it simply due to the noise lol.

Well, ive finally got a compressor.

Its a small, fairly cheap piston unit, but quiet and works well for me.

It included a water trap and filter so im all set. Just working my way through the lessons on this site now
