Thread: New DIY Spray booth

I haven't been doing any artwork over the summer months but it is now time to get back into it. I pulled out a project I started in the spring and never finished. Once complete I needed to clear it and it is to cold outside. I always wanted a spray booth but don't have room for it to live all the time. After some research I went ahead and built something that could be disassembled and stored. It does not work as well as I had hoped but better than I had feared. Here are some pictures of it in different stages of the build. All that needs to be done is 16 screws be removed and it breaks down for storage. Setup time is about 10 minutes.

That looks great,how do you mean that it didn't work as good as you hoped.
have you tried it with a window or door opened some behind you,,this would help to give more draft through the fan,

Hey Kimmo how's it going!
I was hoping there would be no smell in the room at all but there is a small amount. I think it is because of the screen in the window on the outside. I am trying to figure out the best way to remove the screen to allow full air flow and not have to put it in after wards. Wife does not want the cats to be able to get out if I should open the window forgetting there is no screen.
This happened years ago in our bedroom. What a sight that was .. 2 am me hanging out the window in my underwear with my wife holding my feet trying to get the cat out of the rain gutter before he jumped!

Anyway, will post a picture of what I come up with for the window.

As to how it did work, the clear is the cleanest and flattest I have ever sprayed!
So over all it is a success.
However I do not think it could keep up with a small touch-up gun which is what I would really like so I could shoot 2 part..

airguy, nice booth, got 1 ? had you thought about the paint on the light tube, I did not see anything to shield the bulb

OZ I am already ducting the output of the fan in a 6" duct to the outside of the house. I think the screen that is in the window is causing to much restriction. I am almost done a work around for that.

Ray the light has a cover over the bulb, just to bright to show.

Herp, the smell is just fumes not being pulled out of the house and I think some coming back in cause the window cover was not all the tight. I think that will be fixed with the above work around... will post a picture when done.

No my site and YouTube get block at most work places (my site redirects to non standard port so they block it)
Comments were consistent with only seeing the 2 attached photos.

I have not tested this yet but I like it just the same. Went and spent $25 for a piece of 1/4" plexi glass and had it cut to the size of the screen. Added the metal springs on the edge to keep it tight, weather stripping and a couple of knobs to old onto to put it in and take it out.
Cut hole to line up with my inside wood and pipe cover and added some weather strip on the back of the wood around the the hole. Now when I put the inside panel in place, there is no cold air coming in around it (bringing fumes as well) Once installed I have to go outside and install a section of vent pipe to carry fumes out away from the house to help prevent them finding their way back in. One last adjustment I may do is change the inside filter form the pleated type to the open mesh fiberglass type to allow for better air flow.. fan may get painted but who cares!
Oh I glued another piece of thin plexiglass over the piece I cut out and the window holds that in tight when it is closed..
Can you say OVER ENGINEERED!
