    Default Mobile Powdercoat System

    Hi guys,

Mostly pertaining to production paint work and business diversification:

Once I started doing paint on bikes, I get a lot of requests for Powdercoating. Because of the increasing popularity, I decided to start looking into a small powdercoat system set-up. While I was researching I found this little money maker:

    Xiom 5000 Scorpion-Xiom Corp

    The bottom line:

    The good:
    1. Eco friendly
    2. Mobile system
    3. No need for an oven so you can powder coat just about any sized object
    4. Minimum temperature is 180 degrees so many things that wouldn't last in an oven can now be powder coated
    5. They have special coatings like anti-slip, glow in the dark, and a coating for boats to stop the scurvy barnacles

    The bad:
    1. $15,000.00 for the system includes 3 days of training, everything except for a compressor.
    2. It is an industrial level product so the finish is about 90% quality of oven baked powdercoating.
    3. Less color options than conventional powdercoating
    4. I don't have one yet : (

Check out the videos on thier site, cool stuff!

    That is it.

The company is sending me some test pieces in the mail. It will be interesting to see the quality of the finish that can be achieved with this thing.

the guy said that you can apply as much as you need to. It can be applied the same way as conventional oven method, just that your finish is only 90% as good. You can go as thick as you want. I'll report on the test samples that I get in the mail.
