    Default blue fine line

Blue fine line tape. Anyone else have a problem with it leaving a tape line even if you wipe it with final clean? Like tape residue or something. If you have had and get rid of it, how did you do it??

Have never found that tape.. and was just at an auto paint dealer the other day and didn't think to ask. But this reminds me of something I just tried with my last project. Did a toilet seat and had and area masked. When I took off the frisket I had those nasty ridges where the paint got fat next to the mask. I got brave and use a small piece of 1000 grit dry and carefully rubber out along the high edges. I used Golden airbrush colors so it get nice and hard and seems to sand better than the golden fluids which is more rubbery. You know it really worked great. Not sure it would help you but you never know.

I quit using the stuff because of the adhesive residue. I switched over to Scotch 3M #233 tape. It's more like a "fine line" masking tape. It's repositional, doesn't stretch, and most importantly, doesn't leave any adhesive residue behind. Combine all that with the cost (about $2 a roll) and you've got yourself a better performing product at 1/4 the price of the blue fine line. My 2cents.

I use blue line all the time if you apply it to a freshly painted surface it will leave marks or if you leave it on a long time but on surfaces with paint that has flashed, dry I've had no problem

I also use the same tape as Tom but yet to find it in 1/8 inch or smaller, 1/4 inch works great

here's a link to the 3M sales pitch

Maybe I'm just lucky! All I buy is the 1/8"........LOL. Anything smaller, though, all I can find is the plastic tape, and I really don't like it.

Wait a minute.....Don, I just checked the link you put up, and I couldn't find the tape I was talking about.......I'm going into town today, and I'll stop by the AB supply store, and pick up a roll. I'll snap a pic, and post it up.

    Angry Re: blue fine line

even after I read this post I too used some blue fine line and had tape residue. The base coat was dry and I did the other graphix and then laid out the flames last. So the base was completely flashed and the tape was last thing done and removed within 1 - 2 hours and surprise! I will stick to the green tape for now..
look closely in the pic and see the residue. I might try putting some pinstripes around the flames to hide it..

You might try something like "Goof-Off" to remove the residue, but try it in an inconspicous spot or on a test piece first to make sure it won't have any ill effects on the paint.
I know you took the blue tape off within a couple of hours, but was it difficult to remove? Did it give you any trouble or fight?
When you remove tape do you pull it straight out from the work surface, or do you peel it away, like you would the skin from a banana?
