Hey everyone,
I'm going to make my first move from practicing on paper to helping a friend with his R/C heli canopy. I'm thining I'll do a traditional war plane shark's mouth. Not sure what base color. Grey is pretty boring so I'm thinking an aqua dark blue. I have a rough plan, but nothing has been purchased yet, so feel free to chime in with advice and suggestions.
I will be stealing a lot from the Auto-Air article here:
http://www.autoaircolors.com/technic...oat_How-To.pdf
Plan:
1. Buy fiberglass canopy (H60053 TREX 600 Fiberglass Canopy)
2. Mask off canopy and spray w/ SEM Primer Surfacer (SEM Products - Catalog)
3. Dry, sand, clean
4. Buy an Iwata W-101 and spray on 4 coats AA White Base Coat Sealer (what is the purpose of this step?)
5. Use W-101 to lay base color down over entire piece (except masked off 'window)
6. Use W-101 to lay down AA Transparent Base and then sand and clean(what is the purpose of this step?)
7. Add shark mouth mask and airbrush in mouth, teeth, etc.
8. Use W-101 to clear with Allchem’s Virtus 276 two-part clear (will I need to sand and buff this?)
Is this a good plan for a first-timer. I've never primed, based or cleared before.
Thanks!
