    Default Portfolio

Hi everyone, i thought i'd share this with you, it seems to be working well. I needed to put together a portfolio of pictures of my artwork, instead of trying to show people on my mobile phone.
First, i went to a few stores to see how much it would cost for a folder. I ended up getting a heap of these booklets, they werwe on special for $4.99 each, so i grabbed a few, they are 6 x 4 photo size, and hold 100 pics.
next, i went to the local newsagent, they have a photo machine that prints out any size photos , i took in my flashdrive with the pics, plugged it in, and printed out the pics, 12 cents each.
Next was to put the pics in, i did them in various orders of pics, depending on where i was going to leave them. i had already asked around at panel shops, paint shops, etc to see who wouldn't mind having a small booklet of pics on their counter, most were quite happy, and were actually impressed with what i had done.
After the pics were sorted, i cut a stencil for the front cover, with my business name, and then in the inside cover, i printed 6 x 4 pages of my details, what i do, and how to contact me.
I have 5 in shops at the moment, have to do up some more when i get the time. When i have painted a few more pics, i add them to the portfoliio i have here at home, then take it to the shop and swap it over with the old one, and have a chat to see if there is any interest. i'm getting plenty of people having a look through, and they are impressed, but i now have to bite the bullet and go to spray shops, etc to drum up interest.
i'm generating some work, so it is working for me, just got to narrow down my areas. hope this is of interest and helps anyone thinking about doing something like this. the size of it is a plus, it takes up very little room, but catches the eye of people very easily

ps, anyone wants to add ideas to this please do, it all helps in the long run!

ps, forgot to add, total cost with 60 photos is less than $15 dollars, so it works out very cheap to do, with a pretty neat outcome

    Good stuff Sabre...

I took pictures of everything I painted (other than 'standard designs') when I was really in the business. I have a few photos still, but most of them are very worn from travel, time & moisture. If I'd have been smarter, I'd have archived duplicates to save.

Now, I'm starting over with photos, but I have discovered that the digital setup I use now is better than the film I used back in the day. A great benefit is archiving the work without all the physical space requirements.

great Idea and I thought of doing something like that ...and now I am going to move on it... I actually did a metal panel for a garage run by an active biker near me and a blown out tank for a garage owner who builds harleys but a variety of pics Im sure would help grab attention alot better with less work...can't just rely on the website address on a card.

    hi dave,
we had some books made up online they were about 20 pages front and back, full kolor, from memory they were 200mm by 250mm and we put about 6 pics on each page, they only cost around $8 each, later today ill dig out the link and send it to you, these books come as a book and look really professional, that way all the work is done for you and they look pretty cool.

    cheers

Hey Rob, Todd has the link... my booklet just payed off, went to a local restaurant that is a rock and roll themed nightclub, they have a lot of car people go through, so i stopped in and asked if i could leave a book there, they are just in the process of looking for someone to paint a heap of art in the shop. long story short, they want to see me asap, so i made an appointment for monday, they are going to work out their budget, and i'll tell them what i can do for it. they want the whole ceiling done, they have a motorbike against one wall and want a pick of a guy mounting it, they want a car looking like it's sticking out of another wall, a mural around the main bar, and on the wall behind the bar, and also want me to do half a dozen or so 10 x 10 pics of elcis , buddy holley, marylin, etc, to put on the walls for sale, i get 50 bucks out of each sale. think i got my lucky break!!

    hey dude
i hope that you get the work, by the sounds of it its going to take awhile. those books i told you about that we had done were from a place called snapfish, when we got ours done they cost around $7 each, but the place was running a 2 for 1 deal. i know target and harvey norman run spcials like this all the time so if we hear of any going ill let you know.

    cheers
