    Default practice helmet

Hi,,here i go again,,i have this old helmet i use to try some ideas on
the colors i use are waterbased so i usually wash it off but this time i thought i would try to spray some rattle can clear on the colors to see if it would work
should'nt tried this i sprayed a very thin coat and the colors started to wrinkle ,,not good,,i've had the helmet laying around forsome time so i didn't
remeber what basecolor was used on it since last time i painted,,so it was
kind of a gamble,,obviously the rattle can clear and the basecolor didn't work
but,,idon't mind it's just paint, and a old helmet no worries,i'am trying to learn to do this freaking true flames ,,it's very difficult,
here's some pics of the design, maybe do it for "real "some day.

Hey kimmo--pretty good looking..better than mine!! But neither of us have it down yet..It's about the most perplexing thing I've run into..at least you're practicing & I've put it to the side..it has to be something so simple that I'm missing--I start out using my head pretty well but then I space out & have curlycues everywhere..I've even tried to go crosseyed that's how desperate I got one time..& it didn't get me anywhere..I need to refer back to some of the flame posts because there's some young men there trying to help us & I need to re-read before attempting this again..Your flames would pass anywhere I think you know that, but we're both about quality & I think we both know we haven't got it yet--doesn't that just chap you!!!

You right Darla it's Realy complicated thing to paint ,,always fall back to do the old crabclaw style,,,,i don't practice that much just got a feeling to try it once in a while ,,it's to frustrating to keep on trying to much when you feel that you don't getting anywhere close,,maybe someday w'll figure out the technique,,right,,this isn't that well known here where i live yet,,but soon
i believe someone want the flames painted so i want to be prepared,,
eh,,if i ever will learn how to do it

    Kimmo i like it.
but if its tips for the fire your after then here goes:

first of all... helmets are small. i paitned oen 'true fire' helmet a while ago ( before i could do it lol ) and cocked it up majory
its difficult to paint this stuff on small areas so dont be too hard on yourself. specialy with a composition liek you have there ! its quite a big composition . but on a small scale ( if you see what i mean)

now id say your fire lacks body. ( ive said this already sopem where on the forums too ) remember that firte is light, tjherefor dark, shadowy areas dont exist. the only thign that exists is the absence of the flames.

Try to spray the main body of the flames more opaque, starting wirth dark reds, then smaller area in orange,t hen the hight points in yellow.

btu the most important thing i think is to get it right according to how you feel. i gather by this thread you may not be best pleased with the outcome. so hopefuly my advice can steer you in the right direction.

heres a one ive just finished. as i said, lots of body / fullness to the flames:
