    Default Need some advise...

I have a helmet I'm doing for a friend of mine's daughter. It's a BMX helmet and it is made of carbon fiber and when I took off all the graphics it exposed the carbon fiber.
In order to use the carbon fiber as part of the graphics, would I have to clear the carbon fiber first before primer and base or can I get away with inter coating it OR can I just leave it as is, tape out my graphic, prime, base etc...?

I had a snowboard like that. Ended up clearing it. Otherwise no smooth surface.

Well I only sanded the paint and graphics off and no farther. But if you burn pass the clear coat that covers the fiber will the primer or base or even the clear react?
What would you look for to know wether it burned through?
Would it become porous and if so would you be able to see it?
This family doesn't have any money and I'm doing it because the little girl tugs at my heart strings,,,big sad blue eyes..."please will you paint my helmet.....uncle Lee"....
So I'm tryin to find the cheapest way out of this,,mo clear, mo money!
Never worked over carbon fiber before but I want it to be a quality job.
She wants it to have a "The Flash" superhero theme and colors but I want to use the fiber for part of the graphics.
Thanks everybody for your help and suggestions!

    Hi Diaz

I already clear over sanded carbon fiber without any problem except in a small corner where i got micro bubbles, i don't know why it happen in these small part (maybe a fiber resin catalyst prob , i don't know !), impossible to cover it with clear , but it was in a very small part of the bonnet car fiber done by a friend, i think i wouldn't get this problem if the fiber were been done by a company.
I would spray a coat if sg100 , if there is no micro bubble reaction, i would do the design over the SG100 without be afraid with the clear coating part !

Justin Barnes, the one that used to paint for the Orange County Chopper guys, painted a carbon fiber lid for me back in 04 when I was racing. Im pretty sure he just scuffed the clear, painted, and cleared again. Either way here is a good pic of my old Carbon lid, he did a great job, but since it was a friend deal, 3 weeks turned into over a year!
