Default a new double sided painting on glass-half way

    Hi all,

I have just started a new painting on glass today. The sky and the 3 planets were done from the back. The rest was painted on the front side. I used spray cans so far. To obtain the round shapes I used a kitchen ventilator's lid and two jamjar lids. The size of the glass is 35cmX85cm which came from an old window. I sanded the surface with 600 to 1000 grain size sandpaper before starting to paint.

I was painting it outside, just in front of the garden door, but suddenly it started to rain and I got some rain drops on the glass. Since those were the first drops some were pretty small and they made their own contribution to the painting's texture.

I actually want to put Santa Claus in this painting but I'm still looking for a good reference picture. If you know a link or sth you have tried before I would love to have a look at. I used to make father Christmas figurines, may be thousands of them when I was young working days and nights without much sleep for the new year. I even made some candle sticks of Santa's head and some tree decorations. Very pleasant to work on, I wish I had the same energy now.

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures from that period. We believe father Christmas is an international character for everyone and he is above religions. And, he actually proved this with helping me to earn good money then. He was the character who made me earn most during the new year's time. I love him anyway, even if I don't earn from him, he is a model we all wish to be around all the time.

I had already checked google and yahoo before posting here. But I guess the problem comes from trying to incorporate a ready-made thing into one's own design. And I am a bit cautious about it, perhaps I need to find my own version. I guess I will keep looking around until I get some inspiration on this. I will be happy to hear any advice or see some links.

By the way, I painted a few bits from the front with water based paint.

    Hi,

I tried to put myself in Santa's shoes (or boots should I say? ) and asked what would I do if I came to Istanbul. The first answer was drinking some raki with fish around Galata Bridge area, and the second was fishing from the bridge. I suppose my Santa might be fishing in Istanbul just for this time. Considering the excess amount of fish turned out in the markets at very low prices this winter around here I should say this is possible. He was generous enough to fill our fridges with fish this year, very helpful considering the bird flue suspicions.

I corrected some details in the painting and added what to paint in the foreground buildings in pencil lines. There are still some touches needed, but they will come later...

That is really looking very cool. What kind of santa reference are you looking for? I guess finding a real looking Santa reference is about as easy as finding an angel reference.. I just did that one.. finally found a painting I liked that I could use...
Keep up going this is turning out really neat!

    Thanks Doug and Darcy,

I can't decide on any Santas yet. There are so many of them and I want sth special to him. Not seen all the time. Still thinking about...
