Default I hate it, that he already ate it!

I airbrushed a cake last night and it looked awesome! I was going to take pics of it today (my camera sucks when taking pics at night, it's cheap) but my kid already ate the darn thing. That was the first time I ab'ed a cake and it turned out very nice, wanted to show you guys. I will be making another next weekend for his b-day, I'll hide it from him until I get pictures of it and post them. The food coloring was very brilliant in color. I picked it up at the cake decorating store , large bottles for about $3.00 each. I ought to use a cake dummie next time and let him sink his teeth into that. Hehe.

You know, Randyman, I really should. I love doing that kind of stuff. That kid takes up 3/4 of the household budget just feeding him alone. And he's a skinny kid at that.

My wife loves doing cakes, I bought a AB just for her to do cakes but I can't seem to get her to try it.

This is hilarious Joyce & pretty normal for anyone with sons..I'll bet he has no concept of doing anything wrong..I think young men are in a world of their own & don't snap too until they meet the right girl..It's a shame we have to do that--it's a dirty job but someone has to do it..
Can you even describe it..(the cake??)--I feel a lot disappointed..but laws prevent us from killing them..
I recieved a 4 lb. box of GODIVA chocolates as a Xmas gift from someone I didn't care to get a gift from?? 4 layers (I didn't even know they made a box that big--had to be $200??) I casually tossed it to the side on a counter in the kitchen, until I dicided whether I wanted a piece or not....The 2 men I have at home were watching a movie but my husband noticed my son going to the kitchen a lot--he then joined him..by the time I discovered the tresspassing of property 2 layers were gone!! They treated that beautiful expensive chocolate like it was popcorn! After hiding the remainder, the decision to eat it was made right then & I've just about finished it up--hope he sends another next year..lol!!

OK OK Darla, I do have to agree what you say about the male species and the "dirty job" that women have to do but us gorilla's have a sweet tooth too!
Just because women are naturally sweet doesn't make them angels

Joyce, thanx, now I have to go bake a cake 'cause you made hungry for one!
Can't wait to see your son's b-day cake and wish him a happy one at that!

Hello Joyce, my wife is very talented in arts and craft. She's done Pinata's, cakes, etc, but never airbrushed a cake. Can you tell me what process is involved in airbrushing a cake. Some of her work from Sponge Bob and Incredibles below:

    Joyce,
Try frosting and decorating a piece of foam rubber (we did that to my brother in law) just watching him trying to cut it is hilarious. The cool thing is it looks and weighs about the same as the real thing.

Snuff, I was so hyped and ready to pull off a big prank like you suggested on that kid last Saturday. I marched myself to the cake decorating store and bought every color of airbrush food dye they make. i downloaded a picture of the Hulk ( my kid turned seventeen) but he lifts weights and is always pumping himself up so I thought the Hulk would be kind of funny. I cut the piece of styrofoam in a circle, made the icing and proceeded to ice it, then I began airbrushing it and, I forgot to turn the air pressure down on the compressor and blew the icing off the darn cake. Got dye all over myself, even in my nose. It was very hot and humid that day and I did not take that into account when making the icing a little stiffer so with the heat and humidity it was way too soft. Man, I had the color for the hulk mixed perfectly, it turned out with the dye all over me that I was the Hulk that day. I would not let them take pics.

joyce now that story is very funny... do you have a special gun for airbrushing cakes? I remember reading that you should not mix contaminate your guns if you are going to use one for consumption.

Well Diaz, at first I got all pi--ed off, then when I finally caught my breathe and looked in the mirror I fell over laughing, but that did not last long after I found out how hard it was to get that Hulk green off of me. The kids and Tom said that I transformed just like the Hulk does on TV. One minute I am a tidy whitey and the next minute I was swelled up and green. That dye does exactly what it is supposed to do, it dyes you. In answer to your question Gix, I used a cheap Badger that i picked up at Michaels just for doing the cake. It really does spray well. At least in this case it did. I was kind of hoping the folks here in the forum would forget that I said I'd post pictures of it when I was done, but then I saw that Snuff reopened the thread.

Peg, The first thing I have to say is, make sure the compressor is turned down, if you don't, your wife will transform before your very eyes to whatever color she is using to airbrush. I picked up a cheap Badger at Michaels to use on the cake. It works just fine. I would use right around 10 PSI on the compressor and tell her to make the frosting a little stiffer because even at 10 psi it will move the frosting. She can take the image she wants to use and transfer it to wax paper, then lay the wax paper on the iced cake and transfer the image with a toothpick to outline it. Then just take your food dye(airbrush food dye I bought at the cake decorating store) and spray, Carefully. Your wife is a very talented lady. I love her work. That is similar to some of the services I offer in my business, but I am not as good at it as she is. I tip my hat to her.

Sorry guys, too late for pictures, I am turning back into a white woman, just traces of green here and there. I wanted to forget that incident but the evidence is slowly fading. Tom said he could actually see me glowing in the dark. You know the hulk is darn near the color spiderman made that Dragon t-shirt out of. Yikes

This is not the picture that you guys wanted to see, but I thought it would really give you and idea of the color I turned last Saturday.

Joyce and anyone else who has done cakes with an airbrush, I would love to see a "How To", and any and all reference material, books, DVDs, etc. you would reccomend. I have had a bunch of students ask about doing this, and your info and ref. material would give me a great place to start.

I think there are way to many people with blinders on, they won't dare look outside their normal realm for ideas, or maybe new markets for their talents. This goes both ways though, I think that there are a whole lot of people who are airbrushing cakes and such, who never look at tools, effect, etc., that aren't marketed specifically for doing food or cakes. It seems like you could have a whole new market with all the cool stencils, masks and templates that are currently marketed for doing automotive artwork, T-shirts, or tattoos.

I would love to know more, any and all constructive input is welcomed!
