The stuff she wants painted are a mixer, a deep freeze, and a microwave. All metal housings.

Most of those will probably have a baked enamel paint job on them from the factory. Give them a good cleaning first, then, if you want to change the base color you can scuff the existing finish, do a white or light gray primer if needed, then shoot your new base coat color, and follow the same steps you would for doing tins, auto bodies, etc.

What color are these things originally, and what is your wife looking for in a paint job on them?

What kind of paint do you plan on using?

You may want to remove the shell from the microwave oven, they have a tendency to have a lot of vents, and you don't want paint getting into the internal workings if you can help it. You will need to cover and or fill the vents on the mixer and the freezer too, but they should be a lot easier to deal with.

Thanks for the help. All items are factory white finish right now and the wife wants nightmare before Christmas stuff painted on them. Also, thanks for the advice about the vents, that's the kind of stuff that I am worried I won't pick up on before it is too late. I am thinking about getting some auto air paint and giving it a try. I'd rather do try it out on stuff I own that I don't have a time line for then something someone is waiting on. Thanks again for your help/advice.

I think there is a Walter Foster book on drawing the "Nightmare" characters, they give good instructions and lessons, and have books for all kinds of characters (Disney, Warner Bros., Hanna Barbara, Sponge Bob, Pixar, etc.).

Appliances tend to get a lot of handling and abuse, so you are probably going to want/need to do a clearcoat on them when you are done with the artwork.
