I don't think this exactly fits the catagory of fine art. I learned alot and there are many things I will do diferent next time. Here it is anyway.

Looks like fine art to me! No flames, no skulls, big beautiful blue eyes, soft skin tones, YEP! that looks like some FINE art to me!
Great job on your first portrait, how many hours did you put in, and if you know, how in heck do you keep track..
I must spend 6-8 hours tossing and turning tring to sleep at night when working a project like this.. is that billable???![]()
If you have time, would you mind sharing the things you learned on this?
Thanks!
I am not sure how many hours I have into it but at least 10 or 12 (and at least half of them were trying to fix or cover mistakes). I put small ball bearings in the paint jars to mix up the paint (not a good idea with water based paint - they rust). Next time I will do the eyes and lips first I think and then mask them either that or make 3 times as much skin colored paint to cover up overspray. Use bigger sheilds to prevent aforementioned overspray. I think also that I will sketch the basic portrait on a separate piece of paper that I can use as an overlay as I lost my lines on the actual piece that I traced from a projector. I used very little masking on this and opted for free hand shields so maybe thats where I went wrong. When I do the next one I will try different methods. This week Steve Driscoll is going to be in town for a seminar and I can't wait to go (hopefully I can get some tips and tricks from him).
Thanks Chuck! On the ball bearing thing.. Kimmo had suggested stones a long time ago.. I finally got some a few months ago and they work well. Hit the craft store, they have bags of stone.. I think they were called polished river stones. Works great to help mix the paint and they don't react witht the paint. One other thing I have found that helps in mixing, heat the bottle with a hair dryer for a minute or so while shaking.
Thats a great idea about the stones and I will try it - thanks Doug (and Kimmo).
Thanks to air_fx I was inspired to do a little more to this portrait. What do you guys think?
looks great...longer hair right?
pickin my guns up again!!!!!
Yes - I used the bangs to cover up those nasty eyebrows - thanks mayhem.
Very nice, Egneg! The bangs help frame in the rest nicely!

Yep, looks even better! Framed the face and pulls you right to her eye!
Thanks for all the compliments - it really means a lot to me that you like it.
