slip on muffler

Hey guys I have just finished modifying my stock exhaust muffler and thought while it is off I should look at painting it.... it is stainless steel with a very high polish and I was wanting to lay a transperant black over it... which should give it a metalic black look.... so being a bare metal I will no doubt have to use a etching primer for it to bond then a silver heat proof under coat and then the top coat ???? I have no idea as to what type of paint to get this finish... any ideas please....

also just wondering if I go a transperent I could probably throw some kind of A/B under it right?

Dude that's a tough one!!!!
Stainless does not like to be coated! And with a high polish doubly so! It was engineered to stand up to the elements and heat on its own merit.
The next problem is that an etching primer will probably not touch it, and IF it does it will dull the finish.
Most exaust components are "300" series stainless and are very heat and chemical resistant.
I would suggest getting a heat resistant clear, mix your black into it and shoot it directly.
When its dry put it back on the car and let it bake.
You might have to redo it from time to time though.
