I think thats just the preference of the artist, Pat. Sometimes the bristles will get loose in the brush, or there may be an area of wear on the brush, then , if it is interfering with a stroke, you could trim it.
Pat,
I was playing with my Kafka scroller yesterday and noticed I was getting weird effects. Put on my eye glasses and noticed some odd hairs. Lucky
thing they were just loose, and I gently pulled them out. I sometimes will very carefully trim a brush of anytype. Only if I really, really have to. I know some people who never trim them. Like KD said . Its really up tp the artist.
I have also ruined many brushes by trimming to carelessly or doing it too short. If you have some old brushes that are really unusable try trimming them
to get them working again. When you really need to trim a brush do with
extreme care
