Thread: Srolling ???

I haven't had much time to practice with my new brushs yet but the times I did I found its going to take me a long time to get the hang of it

darla, you mention using mahl stick, could we use a flexible magnet strip when we need a straight pinstrip line or do you recommended using tape to guide the brush

I ony use tape to rest number two finger on when pulling long lines. Never let
brush touch tape as it will creep under and make a mess.
Darla is right!!!! And She knows from years of lettering. Don't hold brush real tight. You are turning your brush and that is great. Scrolling is different than doing regular pinstriping.
Picture this, when striping you lay down your brush most of the time except for doing fine lines or ending a design.
Scrolling is more related to lettering.
When you hold a scrolling brush (liner) imagine a rope hanging from the
ceiling going straight down to the floor. Start with tip of brush, gently
put more pressure on brush then ligten up so brush is like a rope again.
That is how you get the thick and thin. I like my paint to be thick but very loaded on the brush. A mahl stick is super too, and talcom powder to keep
you going smooth. You are doing great Pat.

thanks darla & john , I were talking about a straight-edge magnetic strip, I most had fell over the edge again , thanks again, using a magnetic strip will be easy to set straight compare to tape. you can go around corner with the magnetic and apply tape along the edge if you had to so your lines meet in the middle. what do you think about taking the pinstrip across the hood and to the back of the pickup bed ?

There are many people that use magnetic tape with good results. Don't stretch it to hard. Always make sure back of mag tape is very clean so you don't scratch painted surface. However you mak eit work is great. I only would use it for the sides doing straight line work.
Also be careful with fingers as the mag tape can sometime cut or bruise you.
Some guys use a cotton glove on finger to ride on tape. If it was me I put finger under on bottom of tape and brush on top of tape. It is hard to do.
Keep brush about one eight of inch over tape. Pull line wald backwards.
It takes practice. I still have a hard time pulling super straight lines. You
can do it.

my truck do had a factory -formed groove down both sides of the body to rest my fingers on but there is not anything on the hood that I will use to guide my hand, so the magnetic strip will save the day
