Thread: some new stuff

The tank divider was done on raw leather with sem surecoat white. I discovered it was still porous and sucked up paint.The rest are just more baking sheets to stick on the shop wall. The gray pan I tried mixing some dry pearl with 1shot and the results (IMO) were less than spectacular, oh well maybe next time Ill try some flake. AL

why cookie sheets and not sign blank's?

Thanks all. Don, I get the baking sheets at the dollar tree store for a buck apiece. When I have left over paint in my guns I empty them on the cookie sheets. It is also a good way for me to dispose of my Createx and Auto Air that has been sitting around for years, urethane paint will sure spoil you. AL

If you have the DollarTree stores in you area the ones here lately started stocking baking sheets with nonstick coating in black, that color we all love to stripe on. I wasn't sure how the 1 Shot would stick but it does just fine and mistakes can be removed pretty easily, for a buck ya cant beat that. My shop is all metal so I just stick them on the ceiling with small magnets but you can also use industrial velcro which can be had at material stores like Handcocks. It's kind of pricey, about 6 bucks a yard ,but it only takes a couple of square inches to stick up a panel. AL

My shop is metal but small. Its been hot too. Have you tried any of that other
oil based paint yet? I don't know the name but they say its really grabs the surface better than OneShot. Since the lead content is alot less some of
the colors don't cover like they used to. I don't mind the HOK, but I am not
perfect LOLOLOL. I make goofs LOLOL Let me know if you ever get the new stuff. Heard Pete Finlin was using it.

beautifull work Al. Ya know , when i started painting I started with acrylic water base because I thought it was easier to clen up, but my husband kinda pushed me into oil base paint, and I found that I really liked useing it better than acrylic, it was nothing like what I thought it would be . Now I have started airbrushing, with water base, and I'm wonderin, by reading your post, if maybe I don't have the same misconception about the differences in paints. Thanks for sharein your wonderfull talent Al.

I cant give the Kustom striping enamel a fair evaluation, reason being when I ordered the four cans I bought I did not order their reducer, thinking I could use the same mineral spirits I use with 1Shot. Wrong! Kustom does not play well with mineral spirits, or Naptha, or denatured alcohol. Lacquer thiner works marginally. Using the stuff straight up with no reducer and comparing it to 1Shot with no reducer the K does not flow nearly as well for me. Plus the stuff smells funny, reminds me of silk screening paint. I hate to throw good money after bad and buy the reducer (which ain't cheap) only to find out i still don't like the stuff. Maybe I will use what I have unreduced for lettering practice. Pete Finlan is probably getting his paint free for the endorsement, no wonder he likes it. I hear there is some stuff called Ronan that flows like 1Shot and covers better and the reds have less tendency to fade. I havent tried it yet. I totally like the urethane striping enamels but not for practice, it is expensive and contains isocyanates, at least the catalyst does so i would want to wear nitirle gloves and a respirator. i don't mind this if Im doing a serious job to be buried under clear coat, but not for practice. That is so true!!!!!!!!! Many of these guys get stuff for free.
I have heard the stuff really has a strong oder too. The urethanes
have many good uses as far as clearcoating with no problems.
Ronan is an old copmany and I am sure they make some good paints.
Chromatic and One Shot are same company now I think. Anytime I
practice I will use mineral spirits to thin out the paint, and maybe a touch of turpentine too. That stuff smells!!!!!!! But if the time comes I want to do something that needs to last I use One Shot Reducers, and only mineral spirits to clean brushes. Since they changed the formulas its best to use their products all the way on customer jobs. I miss the paints from the 70's so much better coverage.
Al, I bought a Ultra Sonic Cleaner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it .
